Joshua 9:14 Seek God’s Direction

The Israelites sampled their provisions but did not inquire of the Lord. Joshua 9:14

On the surface nearly anything can look and sound good. It is easy for people to think that they understand what they are walking into or dealing with when just looking at the surface of things. Instead of seeking advice from someone who is experienced, many will just jump into something that can be harmful.

Often the real truth is covered up with a disguised lie that appears to be a truth. Only a deep investigation will reveal the truth.

Some people from Gibeon had made it look like they were coming from a faraway place, though they were from nearby, to make a treaty with the Israelites. The Israelites sampled their provisions but did not ask God about it.

The world wants to make a treaty with believers. They want believers to compromise on their stand with God and His ways of living.

On the surface the world will talk about what appears to be love and care, which is what God is all about. Underneath the disguise is a deception to bring about death and destruction. Sin against God is the ultimate goal of the world.

Too many believers hear what the world is saying and quickly agree with them. They are willing to try out what the world offers without asking God about it. They make a treaty with the world causing a snare in their life.

Treaties with the world will often cause the believer to sin against God or at least slow them down from doing God’s will in their lives.

Before a believer makes an agreement with the world, he must first seek God’s direction. God’s Holy Spirit can open eyes up to the real truth, uncovering the deception and lies.

You will have times when the world will try to be friends with you and make a treaty with you. Do not allow yourself to be quick to agree with the ways of the world.

Seek God first to find out what He wants you to do and walk in that path. He can see the truth and the motives behind the treaties of the world. and is willing to reveal them to you.

In the end the world will only strive to kill and destroy you. God will only bring you life, abundant life that will extend into eternity.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will seek God’s wisdom and direction for your life; that God will reveal the deception of the world being presented to you; that you will walk in the path God has for you; and that God will protect you from being deceived into sin.

Luke 20:25 Giving To Caesar

He said to them, “Then give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.” Luke 20:25

For centuries taxes have been something that no one really likes, but have to pay. Every nation on earth has some type of taxation upon the people, some pay more, others pay less.

In most nations, if not all, there is a penalty for those who choose to not pay their taxes. Some people fight hard against paying taxes for many different reasons. Most often it is just for selfish reasons, they do not want to give up their money to anyone else.

Some people asked Jesus if it was right to pay taxes to Caesar or not. Jesus simply said to give to Caesar what belonged to him and give to God what belonged to Him.

At the time Jesus said this, Israel was controlled by the Romans, a pagan nation. There were heavy taxes to be paid. Today people still have to pay taxes.

However there are many other things to be given to either the world or to God.

When a person becomes a believer, he is to give his entire life over to God. This means his loves, desires, actions, thoughts….every thing. God is to have complete control of the person.

Instead of giving all to God, many are divided and given a lot of their affections to this world. They chase after the physical things of this world, such as money, material things and sin.

The world can have these things and the believer must be willing to give it to Caesar–Satan–and not hold on to the temporary, death bringing things. The temporary things of this world will never bring true life, but only death.

When the believer gives to God the things that are eternal, he will gain eternal life.

As a believer you must give things every day to either Caesar (the world) or to God. There is no option to not give. However, you can choose who and what you give.

Allow the world to have its sin and death, they do not do you any good. These things only bring separation from God.

Give your life to God. As you give all of yourself to God, He, in return will give you eternal life, something the world neither knows, nor can give.

Allow Caesar to have what belongs to him. Give what matters to God.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as Savior; that you will dedicate your life to God; that you will abandon sin to follow God; and that you will seek the eternal things of God.

John 16:8-9 Revealing The Truth

“When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: about sin, because people do not believe in me;” John 16:8-9

As Jesus is telling the disciples that He is about to leave to go to the Father, He also gives them some hope. He tells them that He will send the Holy Spirit, a comforter and advocate for them. The Holy Spirit will prove to that world that the world is wrong about sin.

The majority of people in the world do not really believe that there is such a thing as sin. People try to be convinced that anything is acceptable and there will be no judgment against it. There is no higher power, who is in absolute control of everything.

Believing this way removes all responsibility or accountability. This allows people to do what they want, when they want, and how they want to do it.

Truth is something that the world is saying is a vague thing and cannot really be known. Truth is relative to the individual. And there are believers and churches that are starting to say the same thing and follow the ways of this world.

As good as this may sound, it is not truth. Jesus said that He is the Truth. When He left this world He sent the Holy Spirit to guide every person in the truth. The Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of Truth.

If a person opens his heart up to God and allows himself to be led by the Holy Spirit, he will begin to see the truth. He will begin to realize the ways of this world are not truth, but sin.

God has standards set in place for the ways people must live. The world tries to reject those standards, but they still do not change and are not negated.

As a believer, you must not allow yourself to be led by this world. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you into what is truth and what is not. Many things can look good, but are still false.

Through the scriptures and guidance of the Holy Spirit, you can know the truth. You can also begin to recognize the false statements of this world. He will prove that the world is wrong and that Jesus is correct.

Who will you believe today?

I pray today that you will be led by the Holy Spirit; that God will strengthen you to not follow the ways of this world; that God will open your eyes to the lies of this world; and that you will know the Truth about Jesus and His ways.
