He overlaid the ceiling beams, doorframes, walls and doors of the temple with gold, and he carved cherubim on the walls. 2 Chronicles 3:7
When a person is building a house, he wants it to look nice. He will strive to build it with the best materials he can afford. Once the house is built and the walls are up, he will work to paint it with the right colors. Covering the bare walls with the best colors is his goal.
Each person has a different opinion as to what is the best colors to make the house, but the goal is the same. They want the house to stand out as great. They want it to be comfortable and pleasing to the eye.
As Solomon was having the temple of God built, he had everything overlaid with gold. Gold was to be seen everywhere on everything. During his time, gold was the most precious material available. He also spared no expense in how the temple was built. It was an extremely costly expense to overlay everything with gold, yet it was done to honor God with the temple.
God had moved His dwelling place from the physical temple to the hearts of men and women. He now dwells in the lives of people, rather than in a building.
Each person who believes in Jesus is now a temple unto God. They are a work in progress from the moment they chose to follow Jesus.
As a person, they are not very beautiful to look at. People are filled with sin and faults. In order to change, they must put on the holiness and righteousness of Jesus. This is the new gold for God’s new temple.
Putting on His righteousness is costly. It will cost the believer his desires and life. All now belong to God and are to be holy unto God.
You are a temple unto God, a place where God can dwell. The righteousness of Jesus cleanses you and makes you holy. It can bring honor to God in a dark and sinful world.
The process of putting on the gold righteousness will be costly to you. You will have to give up some old habits and thoughts. Yet, in the end it is a witness to the world of who you serve and where your heart is. The world will see what you value and where your focus is.
Are you covered in God’s gold today?
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as Savior; that you will be covered by Christ’s righteousness; that your life will be filled with God’s Spirit; and that the world will see Jesus in you.
The Spirit of the LORD spoke through me; his word was on my tongue. 2 Samuel 23:2
All around the world people are talking and people are listening. Words are constantly being used to say something. Trillions of things are being said every day by people all over the world.
As these things are being said, some of them have little to no value and some should not even be said at all. Words of cursing, destruction, cutting down, rudeness, anger, hatred and more should never be said. Some of these words are said on accident, while the majority are said from the heart of the person.
Other words that people speak can have some value and wisdom in it. However, with the value and wisdom of this world, these words are only of temporary value, nothing of eternal value.
David talks about how God’s Spirit spoke through him. God had given him words to speak. These words have eternal value. All throughout parts of the book of Psalms are many verses that David had written under the inspiration of God’s Spirit. He was able to guide and lead the people correctly because of the words God had given him.
God still speaks through believers today. He will give them the words to say, words that build up believers, tear down walls and break bondages in the lives of people. His words are alive and true. There is no falsehood in His words and these words have eternal value. They are as good today as His written word is and was two thousand years ago.
As God pours out His Holy Spirit upon a person and gives him words to say, these words will always line up with His written word, the Bible. God will not and cannot contradict His word. He does not want His follower to contradict it either.
Open yourself up to God and allow Him to give you the words to speak. This can be in any situation, not just with directly witnessing to a another person. God can give you His words of wisdom to work out a situation at home, work, or any other place.
The words that God can and will give to you by His Holy Spirit will always have eternal value woven into them. They will be words of truth filled with love.
Are you allowing God to speak to the world through you?
Or are you using only your own words?
I pray today that you will allow God’s Spirit to give you what to say; that your words spoken will be the words of God; that God will change lives through the words He gives you; and that your words have eternal truth and value in them.
“See, I have chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge, and with all kinds of skills–” Exodus 31:2-3
Each person has different talents or skills to do different things in this life. Some people excel at math and can do engineering work, that most others cannot even comprehend. Others have the ability to write, or do carpentry, or work with metal, or design something specific. Each one is a little different.
Those that do not have that type of skill, cannot understand how another can do it so easily and so well. With some schooling and a lot of hard work, some people can train themselves to do just about any skill there is. Yet, for most people, there is a block that keeps them from learning some things. They just don’t have that ability.
As God was having Moses gather materials and people to build the temple and all the things in it, God gave him Bezalel to help out with the construction of the materials. God had placed His Holy Spirit upon Bezalel so that he would be able to do many things. He was filled with wisdom, understanding, knowledge and many different skills. God gave him what he needed to get the job done.
God works in the same way today with believers. He calls them to do some work for Him, then He equips them with what is needed to get the job done. The Holy Spirit can come upon a person and fill him in an extraordinary way to do extraordinary things.
The ways God gives those abilities may be different for each person. Some will just be given the ability to quickly learn with ease in schooling. Others will be given supernatural knowledge to just know how to do something as needed.
You are no different than Bezalel. God has given you some skills to do something for the kingdom of God that no other person can do. Seek God to find out what that skill is and what that job is. Set your heart on doing the work God has for you to do in order to build His kingdom and bring Him glory.
Don’t try to be someone you are not. Use what God has already given you to build His kingdom.
I pray today that God’s Spirit will rest upon you; that you will know the guidance the Holy Spirit will give you; that you will know the talents God has given you; and that you will use what God has given you for His kingdom and glory.
