Joel 2:28 Dreams, Prophecies And Visions

And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Joes 2:28

As the destruction of Israel was coming, there was also good news. The good news was what would occur after the destruction of the nation. God would draw all His people back and show His mercy upon them. At that time, God will pour out His Spirit upon everyone who follows Him.

For the most part, in the Old Testament times, the only people who received God’s Spirit to have prophecies, dreams or visions, were prophets and priests. If a person wanted to find out what God had in store for him, he would have to go to a prophet. It is the prophet who would inquire of God for him. God would reveal His ways and things to come through the prophets by giving them prophecies to speak, visions and dreams.

When Jesus was getting ready to leave the earth, He told the disciples to wait for the Spirit to be poured out upon them. This was to fulfil the promise Joel had vision of happening. Not only the old men have these visions and dreams, but so could young men and women, it would be for every person who follows God.

Even to this day, God still pours out His Holy Spirit upon believers. He gives His people visions of what He is doing or going to do. He gives His people dreams to follow in order to build His kingdom larger. He gives prophecies to His people to direct His people on the path that they should be walking.

God is always at work in this world. With your physical eyes, you may not always see it or realize what God is doing. With God’s Holy Spirit in you, you will be able to see with spiritual eyes what God is doing.

God is waiting right now to reveal to you His plans for your life. Those plans are revealed in dreams and visions.

Open up your spiritual eyes to see what God is saying and doing. Allow God to reveal these things to you.

Then, with His strength and power, run hard after those dreams and visions He has given you. See what God can do in and through you.

I pray today that you know God’s Holy Spirit in you; that God will give you prophecies, visions and dreams; that God will help you to understand what He is showing you; and that God will use you to build His kingdom greater.

Isaiah 61:1 God’s Spirit Is Upon You

The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, Isaiah 61:1

At the time Isaiah made this statement, He was prophesying about Jesus. Several hundred years later, Jesus would again speak these words and then tell the people that they were talking about Himself. Jesus came to the earth to bring good news to the people. That good news was that God was going to redeem them and bring them the much desired salvation, release from captivity in darkness.

Many people think that only a pastor, evangelist or a missionary can be anointed to proclaim the good news. It is often thought of the proclamation being a form of preaching, and only those certified to preach can do that. Others feel as if they need a bible college degree in order to proclaim the good news.

When Jesus spoke, while on this earth, He did not have a college degree. There is no record of Him getting any formal training as a preacher. Yet, He spoke with authority and correctly. This occurred because He was anointed by God to do that.

As Jesus left the earth, He said that everyone would be filled with the Holy Spirit, who He would send once He left. This includes every believer who believes in Jesus, which also includes you.

Every believer is anointed by God to proclaim the good news. It is to release people from captivity of sin and darkness.

Telling the good news is not something you need a college degree for, or even need to know New Testament Greek. It is telling others what you know. It is telling others why you chose to believe in and follow Jesus. It is telling others what Jesus has done for you, in  you and through you. It is giving them a chance to see the light and be released from the darkness of this world.

God’s Spirit is on you at all times, because He has anointed you to proclaim the good news.

What are you saying today?

Who are you telling today?

Who can you tell this news to today?

I pray today that you will know God’s anointing in your life; that God will give you the words to speak; that you will proclaim the salvation Jesus provides; and that through you God will release many from captivity and darkness.

Isaiah 11:1-3 What You Have

A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him–the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the LORD–and he will delight in the fear of the LORD. Isaiah 11:1-3

God had promised David that he would have a son on the throne of Israel forever. At the time of Isaiah, the nation had been split and was about to be destroyed. It did not look like there would be anyone to sit on that throne.

In this passage, Isaiah gives a prophecy about one, who was from the lineage of David (Jesse was David’s father), who would sit on the throne again. This one would have God’s Spirit resting on him, giving him wisdom, understanding, counsel, power, and knowledge of God. He would delight in fearing God–following and obeying God. The one to come was Jesus.

As Jesus walked on this earth, all of these things described Him very well. The people saw that He was one who delighted in God. Jesus became the root for those who would come after Him.

One of the things that Jesus said was that He was the vine and you are the branches. Jesus is the original branch, and you are to be like Him.

This means that everything that Jesus has, you can also have. You are attached to Him and are nourished by Him. When Jesus left the earth, He sent His Holy Spirit to be upon you, just as He was on Him.

Having God’s Holy Spirit on you gives you wisdom, understanding, counsel, power, and knowledge of God, just as it gave all those things to Jesus.

Do not rest your wisdom, understanding, counsel, power and knowledge on yourself, or in that of other people. Look to God’s Holy Spirit to guide you. God is with you and wants you to be just like Jesus. Jesus was the perfect example of how to live a life for God.

How are you living your life today?

Are you living it in the ways of this world, under your own power?

Or are you living and walking in the Spirit of God?

I pray today that you will know God’s Holy Spirit in your life; that you will trust in God’s counsel; that others will see God’s Spirit in your life; and that you will delight in serving and obeying God.

Genesis 1:2 Formless And Empty

“Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.” Genesis 1:2

As God was getting ready to create everything, the earth is described as formless and empty, and there was darkness over it. This is stating that there really was nothing there. It was not something you could point at and say look at it.

Yet, even though there was nothing really there, the Spirit of God hovered over it. He was there. God was there looking at that area ready to do something. The next few verses quickly describe how God created everything, step by step. Until God did something, however, there was no meaning or purpose. There was no form or light. It was empty of anything.

People are the same way in this life. All over the world there are people who are living life with no form and are empty in darkness. They are going through life looking for meaning and purpose. Most people look to things or other people to find purpose and meaning in this life. Yet, they always come up empty, because all those things and people are in the same situation.

While they are searching, God’s Spirit is hovering over them. He is calling them to Himself. God is waiting to make a change in their lives. He wants to give them purpose and meaning and create new life in them.

If you are now a believer and have accepted Jesus into your life, you have started to allow God to create that new life in you. You are no longer formless and empty in darkness.

During the creation of everything, God spoke and it happened. Nothing questioned God or rebelled against what He wanted done.

As God is speaking into your life, how are you accepting His Words? Are you allowing God to change you and give you true life?

Or do you fight against God not wanting to make the necessary changes?

Allow God to give you life abundantly. Allow Him to speak into your life today. Do not remain formless and empty in the darkness.

I pray today that you will know what God is doing in your life; that you will accept God’s plan for your life; that you will allow God to make you alive in Jesus; and that you will no longer live in empty darkness.
