But the angel of the Lord said to Elijah the Tishbite, “Go up and meet the messengers of the king of Samaria and ask them, ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going off to consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron?’ ” 2 Kings 1:3
Everyday millions of people around the world are seeking counsel on how to deal with situations in their lives. Many will begin with seeking out friends and family members first, but then will go to professional counselors. Then many will also seek some type of spiritual counselor.
Ahaziah had become king after Ahab and Moab rebelled against Israel. Ahaziah sent messengers to consult Baal-Zebub for help. God has Elijah ask him if there is no God in Israel to get him to go to Baal-Zebub for counsel.
With a simple search people can find counsel on any and every situation in their lives. The majority of the counsel that can be found is found outside of God with a worldly viewpoint. People, including believers, are very quick to find counsel from the world.
While it is expected of the world to seek their own counsel, believers should be seeking God’s counsel. Many believers do not seek God’s counsel because they know that it will probably go against what they really want, which is to be able to live in sin and get by with it.
Regardless of what the problem is or how big or small it is, the first place a believer should go to seek counsel is to God. It is only God who has perfect wisdom and sees the end from the beginning. He knows what is best to think, say and do in any and every situation, and He is ready and willing to give that counsel, and is available all twenty-four hours a day.
You most likely have situations in your life in which you need some guidance as to how to deal with it. Do not allow yourself to run to the world to seek their fallen and deceived counsel.
Begin with opening your Bible and reading and studying it to understand God’s ways better. Then take time to pray and seek God’s Holy Spirit to guide you in what you should or should not do.
If God was willing to send His Son to die for you, He is more than willing to guide you in how to live this life He has given you.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will first seek God for any needed counsel; that you will listen and heed to the counsel of God; that you will trust God’s word to you; and that you will live your life serving and obeying God.
