Numbers 24:13 Not Being Bought Off

Even if Balak gave me all the silver and gold in his palace, I could not do anything of my own accord, good or bad, to go beyond the command of the Lord–and I must say only what the Lord says? Numbers 24:13

In this world it is commonly heard that money talks, meaning it can get people to do things that they would not normally do. It is very common for people to do things that go against their conscience or beliefs if they are given enough money in their greed to be wealthy at any cost.

After blessing the Israelites several times, Balaam tells the messengers of Balak that even if he was given a lot of money he could not say or do anything against the command of the Lord.

People are very quick to sell out their mind, body, soul, family, friends and more to get money. This includes many people in the church. The commands of God are pushed aside or ignored in order to gain wealth.

At the moment a person chooses to believe in Jesus, he needs to give his entire life over to God. God is to be the complete master of his life. This is to include everything the person says or does no matter what is offered.

Nothing this world can offer can equal eternal life. In the end all the world can give is temporary pleasure that ends in eternal death.

Obedience to God takes priority over everything else in a person’s life. If one does not obey God, he is not serving God nor does he trust in God. Disobedience is rejecting God.

One must never allow himself to be bought out by the world to do anything good or bad that goes against the commands or will of God.

Temptations will arise to try and get you to go against God’s desire or your life. Money, position, friendship, material things and more will be offered to gain your following and get you to sin against God by disobeying His commands.

Choose today that God is the only one you will serve with all of your heart, soul, mind and strength. Put His ways and commands above everything and everyone else.

Know that no matter what the world can offer, God offers something much better–eternal life. How willing are you to obey God’s commands?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the commands God is giving you; that God will give you the strength to obey His commands; that God will strengthen you to refuse to disobey His commands; and that you will know the reward God has for you as you obey Him.

Zechariah 13:9 A Time Of Testing

This third I will put into the fire; I will refine them like silver and test them like gold. They will call on my name and I will answer them; I will say, ‘They are my people,’ and they will say, ‘The Lord is our God.’ Zechariah 13:9

Testing of people is something required in most areas of life. It is commonly thought that testing is only for children and college students. However, adults, outside of school, get tested on a fairly regular basis.

Many workplaces require annual testing on various skills to ensure the workers keep up on those skills. Workplaces also get inspected often to ensure that they are following certain guidelines.

God said there would be a small remnant of Israel left, after being scattered, who would be tested in a fire. As they are tested they will call upon God and make Him their God.

Very few people like to be tested and no one likes to go through a fire. Both can be scary and may destroy a person. The bitter-sweet thing about being tested is that it can reveal both strengths and weaknesses.

As a fire, the testing can get rid of the bad parts, cleaning up the life of a believer in God. It can cause a person to run to God and trust Him in the process. The true remnant will run to God, the rest will run away, not trusting God.

In America and the world, God is doing a time of testing to see who will remain faithful to Him and who will fall away. This fire is to set to burn out the impurities of sin and corruption in the lives of believers. A remnant will come through to say God is their God and God will say that they are His people.

As you are going through a fire, tough and difficult times, you need to turn to God and trust Him. Allow God to be your God. He knows what is best for you and is allowing this time of testing in the fire. Allow God to burn out the impurities and distractions in your life.

When you allow God to clean you up by His testing, your testimony will be even greater. God will be able to use you even more in building His kingdom. You will be a brighter light shining for God in this dark world.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will allow God to test you; that you will make God your God; and that you will shine for Jesus.

Psalm 12:6 The Flawless Words Of God

Bible lit up

And the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times. Psalm 12:6

Years ago there was a commercial that always ran about the investment company, ‘E. F. Hutton’ that always said: ‘When E. F. Hutton speaks, everyone listens’. People loved to hear him speak, because it appeared that when he said to invest in something, it always made money. He was all about making more money, so people hung onto his words.

Along with him, there have been many other people who people hang onto their words. It is as if the person speaks perfect words. Some of those people often don’t even really know what they are talking about, it is just that they are some big celebrity.

David started off this psalm with the idea that most people are liars. In this verse he points out that God’s words are flawless, perfect. They are like purified silver and refined, pure gold. They are to be something sought after and treasured more than anything else.

Money, silver and gold has value in this world, but each are only temporary and can fail. God’s words are perfect and will never fail and are more valuable than gold that has been refined to perfection. It reveals God and His will for each and every person.

Often believers have God’s word sitting on a table at home, collecting dust and never being opened. They choose to not read and study His word. They don’t see the value in His word.

Believers need to seek to know God through His word more and more. His word needs to be sought after as many seek after gold and riches. It can guide and direct a person in this life to prepare for eternity. Just as one can never get enough money, one cannot get enough of God’s word in his life.

Take time each and everyday to read and study God’s word for your own life. Find the extreme value in knowing God’s word for your life. God has something to tell you each and every day from His word if you will let Him by reading it.

Don’t just read this short devotional blog and call it enough. Take time to read the entire chapter or book each day. God has something of high value for you. Seek His word more than you seek after gold or the temporary things of this earth. God’s word is eternal.

I pray today that you will have a hunger to know God’s word; that God will reveal more of Himself to you through His word; that you will see God’s purpose for you in His word; and that you will see the value of God’s word to you.

Zephaniah 1:18 The Day Of The Lord’s Wrath

Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to save them on the day of the LORD’s wrath. In the fire of his jealousy the whole earth will be consumed, for he will make a sudden end of all who live on the earth. Zephaniah 1:18

Zephaniah opens his book talking about the great day of the Lord. It is the day that Jesus returns with vengeance upon all those on the earth who have chosen not to follow Him. God pours out His wrath upon those who have rejected Him. As this occurs, there is nothing that can save any person on the earth from His wrath.

People are always talking about great disasters that could occur upon the earth. Talk about global warming, a meteor striking the earth, flooding, great earthquakes, and other disasters. As they talk about this, most look at it as the fault of men. They also work on doing things that will keep them alive in such an event.

Large bank accounts have been built up and huge safety homes have been built to protect people from all harm. Yet, despite how much money a person has or how secure his home is, it will not protect him from God’s wrath in the end.

When God chooses to destroy the earth, because of sin, it means that everything on this earth will be destroyed. All life on this earth will be destroyed. All the money in the world will not buy salvation from His wrath. Only those who have trusted in Jesus can escape His punishment. Those who have put their trust in Jesus will be removed from this earth and escape the punishment.

Knowing this truth now, should cause you to want to know Jesus more and more, and to put your trust in Him alone. Do not trust in yourself or the things of this world. Follow Jesus to serve and honor Him so that you will be saved from God’s wrath.

Along with your own salvation, tell others about Jesus. Let them know what is coming and how they can be saved from it. Nothing in this world can save any person from God’s wrath except trust in Jesus.

Who or what are you trusting in to save you today?

Are you letting others know this also?

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your savior; that you will not trust the things of this world to save you; that you will tell others about Jesus; and that you will be ready for the day of God’s return.
