Proverbs 8:10-11 What To Choose

Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her. Proverbs 8:10-11

Wealth is something that many people strive for. People are always looking for a way to get rich quickly, with as little amount of work as possible. Many are striving to be able to purchase that new car, or house, or go on a fancy vacation. In the process of getting those things, many problems arise.

It is common for a person to get a loan to purchase that new fancy car, that is more than he really needs. Then a few months later, the car gets repossessed because he cannot make the payments. There was no wisdom used in the purchase, only the seeking out of gold and silver. Wisdom would have made the person choose another vehicle that was not so high priced.

Solomon, who was the wealthiest man who ever lived on the earth, had learned that seeking wisdom was more important than seeking after things or gold. It has more value than the gold, because wisdom can bring a person life. Wisdom keeps a person from making the wrong decisions.

Knowing God is the beginning of wisdom. No one is more wise than God is.  God had the wisdom to lay out the plan of salvation for each person. That plan brings about life, not death.

Seeking to run after the things of the world will only bring you dissatisfaction and disappointment. You may have a lot of things and are wealthy, but inside there will be no real life or enjoyment in this life.

The Bible does not directly tell you what to do or not do in purchasing things of this world. It does, however, give you guidelines in what to do. These guidelines are pieces of God’s wisdom for your life.

As you choose to follow God and His word, you will gain more wisdom. In the process of gaining this wisdom it will help you make the right choices in this life. Then you will be filled with the abundant life that Jesus said He came to give you.

Will you choose God’s wisdom for your life today?

I pray today that you will seek out God’s wisdom; that you will follow God’s wisdom; that God will show you the best paths to take; and that you will know the life that God’s wisdom can give you.

Psalm 119:72 Better Than Gold

The law from  your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of silver and gold. Psalm 119:72

Money is something that seems to be needed by everyone. In order to purchase needed food, clothing or housing a person needs money. Because of this, people work hard to get it. They will put in long, hard hours to get the needed money to pay for various needs.

Once the basic needs are met, people will then work many more hours to get extra money for more things. The amount of money needed never seems to find an end. The more a person has, the more a person wants.

Once the money is in the bank account, it is difficult for many to lose it. That money is very precious, needed and wanted.

Yet, the psalmist states that God’s law is even more precious than all that money. Having God’s law means more than having thousand or millions of dollars.

The world looks at someone as crazy who would rather have God’s Word than a big bank account. The things that money can buy appear to be better and greater than God’s Word.

For a believer there is something different that is gained that the world cannot know or understand. That something is real life.

All the things that money can buy are temporary and will go away or fall apart. God’s Word is eternal. God’s Word gives a person direction in how to really live life to the fullest. It teaches how to have contentment and fulfillment in this life.

If you are searching after the wealth of this world, you will only find temporary satisfaction, it will be here today and gone tomorrow.

Seeking and knowing God’s Word will guide you in what is best for your life. It will teach you how to live a life that will last for eternity.

How much greater is something that will last for eternity than something that is only temporary?

Keeping this in mind, seek to know God’s Word more and more. Make it the first focus of your life. See the real value in His Word, a value that outweighs all the gold in this world and all that the world has to offer.

I pray today that you will know the value of God’s Word in your life; that you will find the life in God’s Word; that you will spend your efforts to know the Bible; and that God will fill your life with fulfillment and contentment in Him.

Psalm 66:10 Tested And Refined

For you, God, tested us; you refined us like silver. Psalm 66:10

Very few people look forward to a test. Unless a person knows that he is completely ready for that test, with absolutely no fear of failing it, tests are usually dreaded.

Even once the test is over and a person has passed the test, very few enjoyed it. Most look at the test wondering why they had to take it or why some of the questions were even on the test. Tests are rarely looked at as a good thing, unless given to someone else.

The psalmist had been talking about giving God praise and singing songs of praise to God for what He had done. One of the things he praised God for, was for being tested and refined.

Testing is a process of verifying what a person should know and how they would do things. It is also a refining process.

Refining silver is the process in which a person removes all the bad stuff out of the silver metal. Silver, straight from the ground, has many other things, than just silver, mixed into it. It needs to be cleaned out. The best process of removing that garbage is heating up the metal and putting it through the test of fire. Doing that is hot and painful.

In your life as a believer, God does the same testing and refining process. As God puts you through a test to refine you. He is working at removing the garbage, sin, in your life. God wants you to walk, talk, think, and act just like Jesus.

That testing and refining period can, and most likely will be, painful. It is the time of removing things from your life that you have allowed in, that God does not want there.

Some people look at that time of process as a time when God hates them or is being mean. Do not look at it that way. It is God showing His true love for you. If He did not love you, then He would let you live with garbage in your life, but He does love you and care for you.

God will not allow garbage to remain in you.

Will you give God praise for what He is doing in your life, even if it is painful?

Allow God to test and refine you into the image of Jesus.

I pray today that you will see God’s testing of you as an act of love; that you will allow God to change you; that you will give God praise for all He does; and that you will shine like Jesus.
