Psalm 66:10 Be Tested And Refined

For You, O God, have tested us; You have refined us as silver is refined. Psalm 66:10

Silver and other metals are often put through a refining process to make the metal more pure. It is a process of heating the metal up to the melting point and then removing any impurities that show up. This process can be done multiple times in order to purify the metal to a higher quality. Most people do not like the process because it is very slow and tedious and get satisfied with a lower level of quality.

The writer of this psalm admits to God that He had tested them and refined them as silver is refined.

Anyone who wants to become better at something will go through a time of testing and being refined. This is most often seen in athletes striving to be the best at what they do. Testing comes during games, while the refining comes through hours and hours of practice and being criticized as to how to do things better.

However, everyone goes through testing and refining in many other ways.

Every believer is a person who at one time did not live for God but has chosen to now live for Him. The believer is going through the process of testing and refining to become a new creation in Christ Jesus. This new creation is to look, act and be more like Jesus, who is the exact representation of God.

The testing comes in hard times and difficulties that bring on extreme heat in one’s life to try a person’s character. Refining is learning how to act and react as Jesus would in every situation, whether good or bad, easy or tough situations. In the end it is to purify one of all sinful characteristics to become holy and pure unto God.

As a believer, God is at work in your life to test you and refine you. He is putting you through a heated process to get rid of the junk in your life and make you more holy and pure like Jesus. Testing will come to see if you have learned anything along this journey. As sinful things come to the surface, Jesus is willing to forgive you and remove those sins, purifying and refining you towards perfection in Christ Jesus. Accept God’s testing and refining process and know that it is for your own good.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will understand God’s times of testing and refining; that you will be made more like Jesus each day; and that you will not grow angry at the times of testing from God.
