Malachi 3:3 Purified To Offer Righteousness

He will sit as a refiner and a purifier of silver; He will purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer to the Lord an offering in righteousness. Malachi 3:3

Metals are heated up to a melting point in order to get the garbage removed from it. The process is done to purify the metals in order to make the metal more valuable. More can be done with a purified metal, then with one corrupted with impurities and garbage that breaks the metal down.

Malachi writes of the coming Messiah who will be a refiner and purifier of the sons of Levi. He will purge them as gold and silver so that they can make offerings in righteousness.

Cleaning out garbage is not something that most people really like doing. It can be a hard, messy, smelly process. It takes work and consistent dedication to do it correctly and be successful.

When a person gets a serious cut in the skin, one must be careful to clean it to prevent any possible infection. The cleansing chemicals can often feel like burning and painful, but it works at getting rid of anything not desired.

God works in the hearts and lives of believers to cleanse them of all impurities in their lives. Every believer comes to God with sin that needs to be purged out of one’s heart and mind. Sin is immediately forgiven, but the habit and pull of sin may still be there.

Using situations in one’s life, God breaks the hold of sin and purges the desires of sin from the heart. As this occurs, the believer, who is now a priest of God as Levi was, is able to make offerings in righteousness. One is able to live in righteousness and holiness before God and man.

There have been times in your life in which you have had to clean out a cut or wound that you have had. As you do so, it was most likely a bit painful, but worth it in the end. God is also at work in your life to purge anything impure in your life. In the same way it is often difficult and painful. Trust God’s purification process and learn to live the holy and righteous life as Jesus did. Be willing to offer your life as an offering in righteousness before God.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will allow God to purify you of all sinful habits and thoughts; that you will be a priest in the house of God; and that you will offer your life as an offering in righteousness to God.
