Revelation 9:20-21 Refusing To Repent

The rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood–idols that cannot see or hear or walk. Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts. Revelation 9:20-21

The world loves to live the way that it lives. They do not see bad situations as warnings as to how they are to change their bad patterns of living.

Most people live with the here and now attitude, not realizing the future dangers that are awaiting them.

John sees a vision of the future judgements of God being poured out upon the earth. After a world-wide plague kills many people and animals, the people still refuse to repent of their sinful ways.

Throughout history God has used disasters to attempt to get people to turn towards Him. Some of those disasters are direct judgements upon the people for what they are doing. Instead of seeing those disasters as a calling card to repent, most people continue to live in sin.

God never wants to destroy people, but wants them to turn towards Him, trusting Him and having a loving relationship with Him. He is willing to do whatever it takes to make that happen, including plagues and disasters.

Across America and the world, more and more people are living in more and more sin, and promoting those sins to a greater extent. They worship their golden idols and sexual immorality, with no apparent consequence. Regardless of the plagues that come, people continue to live in sin.

People need to repent of all sins and turn away from their sins before God chooses to pour out judgement upon them.

God may be using disasters in your life to get your attention upon Him. He has good plans for you, but you must be willing to turn from sin and follow Jesus with all of your heart, rejecting all sin.

Do not be like the world, embracing sin, but flee temptation to sin. Be holy as God is holy. If you choose to live in sin, as the world does, there will come a day of God’s final judgement upon you that will last for the rest of eternity.

Repent of your sins and turn from those sins while it is today.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that God will reveal to you sins that you need to repent of; that God will give you strength to resist temptations to sin; that you will see God’s hand at work in every disaster; and that you will live for God.

1 Corinthians 6:18 Flee Sexual Immorality

Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. 1 Corinthians 6:18

One of the greatest sellers in media, whether it is books, magazines, tv shows or movies is sex. People, as a whole, like to see things that are sexual in nature.

The porn industry is the greatest, most profitable industry across the entire world. Along with purchasing sexual acts, the acts of sexual acts is extremely common among all people, everywhere and of every age level.

Paul just finished telling the Corinthian people that their bodies are members of the body of Christ. Now he tells them that they must flee all sexual immorality.

Sexual sins has not only permeated the society at large, it has also permeated throughout the church. It is common to hear of couples living together in sin, without being married. Many churches have begun to accept people living in homosexual lifestyles and not call it a sin. And this is just the physical act side of things.

There are another group of believers who won’t do the physical acts, but have it in their minds and dreams. They will watch porn, or think about it on a constant basis as if it does not matter and there is nothing wrong with it.

Jesus had brought about the idea that not only is the act sinful, but thinking about the act is also sinful. Thinking about the act, will often bring about the physical action.

As with any sin, the believer must flee it. Temptation to sin sexually will arise, but one must flee it. He must turn and run away as fast as he can and focus his attention upon God and His word, rather than the sinful ways of this fallen world.

You must examine what your thoughts and actions are about. What are you willing to see and do? Do not allow the beliefs that free sexual acts or thoughts are good outside of the marriage God instituted in the Bible.

Line your thoughts and actions up with what God has put in place. Whenever temptation to sexually sin arises, flee with everything that is in you. Do not allow thoughts to stay, leading to greater things against God.

Sexual acts are good, but within the boundaries of marriage that God made. Live for God, not self.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that God will strengthen you to flee all sexual sins; that God will guide you to flee all sin; that you will focus your life on God and His word; and that you will live for God in every area of your life.

Revelation 2:20 Bad Tolerance

Accepting hands

Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. Revelation 2:20

Tolerance is something that people want shown to themselves, while not necessarily showing it to others. The world wants believers to be tolerant of their practices and ways of living. No one wants to be judged as being wrong or ever needing to change.

Many people in the church have become tolerant of others, following the ways of the world. They have begun to accept people who they are, just the way the are. This in and of itself is not necessarily bad, but people are allowed to stay that way as they continue to ‘follow’ Jesus.

People are allowed to continue in the church as leaders and good believers while still living in purposeful sin. They are being tolerated for their ways. Many in the church have begun to accept many of the beliefs and practices of the world, because they are tolerant and ‘loving’. Sexual immorality, drugs, greed, jealousy, pride and more sins are all being accepted inside the church, in trying to be tolerant of others.

A person who has become a new believer is to change his ways of acting and thinking. He is to become a new person, not remain in his old ways of sin and death. Yet, people want to be tolerant and stay the same.

God spoke against a church in Revelation for doing this very action. They did not hold to God’s standards of living and became like the world, while claiming to follow God.

Jesus set a high, separate standard for believers in the church. As a believer, you must strive to attain those standards. It will mean that you will not be tolerant of sin and accept it. You will still love people and accept them, but you will aim for living the higher standard for God.

Take a look at your life and see if there are any areas in your life you have compromised in being tolerant of sin. Turn your focus back on to God and His ways of living. Seek to live like Jesus in every area of your life. Do not allow sin to reign in your life as you seek to be tolerant. Love but remain separate.

I pray today that you will know God’s standards of living; that you will not accept the ways of this world in your life; that you will point people to live as Jesus lived; and that you will be a witness of God’s standards in this world.

Numbers 25:1-2 An Invitation To Be Rejected

While Israel was staying in Shittim, the men began to indulge in sexual immorality with the Moabite women, who invited them to the sacrifices to their gods. The people ate the sacrificial meal and bowed down before their gods. Numbers 25:1-2

God had the Israelites camp for a while in Shittim. While there the men began to take the Moabite women and have sexual relations with them. The Moabite women then invited them to take a part in their sacrifices to their gods. The invitation was accepted. This caused God to get extremely angry with them and had many of them killed.

One of the strongest temptations to sin is with sexual immorality. The world uses the natural God given drive in men and women to tempt them into immorality. Once it starts, it opens the door for much more. The men of Israel had made themselves one with the Moabite women, thus, when the invitation to take a part in their sacrifices they were willing.

The world will invite you to be a part of their life-styles. Some things like a meal and a sacrifice may appear to be simple and just a fun thing to do. The problem is that often they are bowing down to something that is not God, and when you participate with them, you, also, begin to bow down to those things.

You may not physically bow down, but you begin to spend more time with those things or events, then you do with God. You may begin to place those things before God. They become your idol, your foreign god, and replace God Himself.

Jesus had sat down and ate with sinners, but He did not allow Himself to be drawn into their ways of living and thinking. He was there to be a witness and love them.

When you are out among those who do not believe in Jesus, how are you living?

Do you buy into their ways and thinking?

Or are you a light of the world, representing Jesus?

There are times you must reject an offer to take part in the world’s activities. You are to be separate and holy to God. Do  not allow yourself to fall into the habit of worshipping the idols of this world.

I pray today that God will reveal to you the idols around you; that God will strengthen you to reject any idol worship; that your heart will be focused on Jesus alone; and that you will be light in this dark world for Jesus.

Revelation 2:20 Tolerating False Teaching

“Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols.” Revelation 2:20

On the surface the church in Thyatira must have appeared to be a very good church. They were very active in ministry. They did a lot of service works showing their love and faith, and they hung in there through the tough times. Jesus even states they were doing more now, then when they started. That was the outside show of who they were.

Inside, however, He had a different report. They were reported as having tolerated and followed Jezebel. She was a person who called herself a prophet of God, yet was teaching wrong things. She was leading the believers into sexual immorality and working with idols. She may not have been a literal person named Jezebel, but it was people who worked in that same spirit or ways.

There are people in the world today who call themselves believers and are leaders in various ways. Some call themselves prophets, or evangelists, or pastors, or some other title. No matter what title they call themselves, the idea is that they believe they are doing a work for God.

Their teaching may have some of God’s Word in it, but often it contains false teachings also. It will promote the idea of certain sexual practices are acceptable to God, even though God spoke against it in the Bible. They will also promote supporting other false beliefs. There are “churches” around now that believe you can believe in anything you want and still get into heaven.

As they promote these wrong beliefs, many will do many good works. They will help people out and show a lot of love. They appear to be of God, yet they are not.

Do not allow yourself to be one of these people. Keep your eyes focused on all of God’s Word. Do not allow yourself to be deceived by these types of people. God will give you wisdom to know when someone is true to Him or not. If you are grounded in God’s Word and prayer, He will help you to know His truth in every situation.

I pray today that you will not be led wrong by any false prophets; that God will give you wisdom in knowing His truth; that God will open your eyes to false teachings; and that you will speak His truth at all times.
