Acts 26:22 No Extra Words

Open Bible

But God has helped me to this very day; so I stand here and testify to small and great alike. I am saying nothing beyond what the prophets and Moses said would happen–Acts 26:22

Paul had been put in captivity for preaching the gospel message. While there he appealed to Caesar, rather than be judged in a lower court. He stood before King Agrippa and stated that he said nothing beyond what has already been said by the prophets and Moses, so was therefore innocent.

When a person is trying to convince someone of something, he will often present every piece of information he can. In the process, many people will add information that is not true to build the case. They use extra words in order to convince others that they are correct.

If the person that is trying to be convinced is not paying attention, he will be convinced. However, many will pay attention and realize the false statements being made or notice when things do not line up correctly in the statements.

There are believers who strive very hard to convince people to believe in Jesus or to follow a principle of the bible. In the process, there are times they use arguments that are not from the Bible and are not truth. Some believe in Christian slogans, that cannot be found in the Bible.

It has been seen many times on television, speakers who claim that a person will be blessed if they purchase a certain item from the ministry. Or if they give a certain amount of money to the ministry, there will be a sudden amount of money given back to them.

These are extra words that God never directly stated in the Bible. In the process of proclaiming God’s word, a person must be careful to keep his words true to God’s word. The gospel message is very simple and is what the entire Old Testament points to.

As you speak to people about God or Jesus, make sure that the words you use are what God’s word says. Do not try to add anything extra. When you speak extra words, you take a chance of going off track from God’s word. Allow God’s word to be active and alive in the lives and hearts of others. You cannot give more than what God has already given. Stay true to God’s word.

I pray today that you will know what the Bible says; that you will speak the true gospel message to people; that God will give you the words to say; and that many will know Jesus through the message you speak.

Acts 18:6 When Rejected, Move On

Walking Away

But when they opposed Paul and became abusive, he shook out his clothes in protest and said to them, “Your blood be on your own heads! I am innocent of it. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.” Acts 18:6

Paul had went to the city of Corinth and was preaching the Gospel message there. He was trying to reach the Jews for Jesus. Many of the Jews opposed him and became abusive. Instead of fighting them, he shook off his clothes and moved on to another group of people.

It is very common for someone who is trying to change the mindset of a group of people to be opposed. People do not like to be told that their way of thinking is wrong and most people do not like change.

While most people do not get abusive when being presented a new way of thinking and acting, there are some who do. It is difficult for people to change traditional ways of acting or thinking.

A believer who is working on fulfilling the great commandment to tell others about Jesus, will eventually meet up with people who will oppose him. And sometimes that opposition will get abusive.

For the believer, this opposition can not only appear with those outside the church, there are some inside the church who will oppose him for what God is leading him to say and do. Just as it is in the world, it can happen in the church. People in the church will become abusive in defending their beliefs or actions.

Instead of fighting back or becoming abusive, the believer needs to shake off his clothes and move on to another person or group. Do not fight as the world does and become abusive. Do not be demanding. In these types of actions, there is no love.

If you have not faced this yet, there will come a day when it will happen if you follow God with all of your heart. People will oppose you and become abusive. Do not let it worry or get you angry. Move on to someone else. Keep doing what God wants you to do.

Allow God to work in the hearts and minds of the people. Make sure that you are doing what God wants you to do. It may be rough, but it will be worth it in the end.

I pray today that you will know what God wants you to do; that God will give you strength and wisdom to do His will; that God will give you favor with the people; and that God will guide you when to move on to other groups of people.

Acts 9:20 A Sign Of Change

Sign Of Change.jpg

At once he began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God. Acts 9:20

Saul was a religious leader that was very devout in following God according to the law of Moses and the sacrificial system. After Jesus left the earth, Saul began to persecute everyone who followed Jesus, because it was a different way of serving God. As he was on his way to persecute some more, God got a hold of him and changed him. Shortly after accepting Jesus and beginning to follow Him, Saul began to go around and preach that Jesus is the Son of God, the very thing he had been opposed to before.

People make claims all the time of changing something in their life. Many men will say that they are going to start working out in order to be healthy. Or they will stop eating so much junk food and eat much healthier.

Yet, shortly after starting to do the workout or eating healthy, they stop and go back to their old ways of living. There was no real change in their life.

There are people in the church who are living the same way. They become a believer in Jesus, yet, do not really change anything. They continue to live just as they have always lived. Some will change for a few days, but quickly go back to their old ways of living.

Jesus said that believers would be a new creation. This means that they would be a different person, than they were before.

Saul had shown the change in his life, by immediately going around and preaching about Jesus. This is just going around and telling people that Jesus is the Son of God and the way to salvation. He is the only way to get into heaven.

Look at your life and ask yourself if there has been any change in your life since you accepted Jesus. Do you talk about Jesus everywhere you go? Or do you just talk about life and the weather?

Be willing to show that there is a sign of change in your life. That you are a different person than you used to be. You have the greatest news of all time to share, why not share it as much as you can?

Go out today and be a different person and tell others of Jesus.

I pray today that God will cause a change in your life; that the world will see and know you follow Jesus; that you will tell people about Jesus; and that God will give you strength and wisdom to share His message with this world.
