Galatians 1:23 What Are They Hearing?

But they were hearing only, “He who formerly persecuted us now preaches the faith which he once tried to destroy.” Galatians 1:23

People love to talk about other people. They will talk about what they think about others that they directly know or about people they know about and think they know. The topic will be about the person’s character and what the person has done or is doing, whether good or bad. Conversation will rise greatly when there is a major change in the person to something completely new. It will amaze people.

As Paul is talking to the Galatian church about how God changed his life, he points out that people are talking about how he is now preaching the message that he once tried to destroy.

Drastic change in a person’s life will always catch the attention of people. Often people will question the change and not really believe that it is real. It takes time for people to believe that the change is real because they know the person’s background.

Every person has some things in their background that was not good, and they want to erase the memory of it. The value in remembering the bad background is being able to see the change for the better.

Believers have a background that was filled with sin and devoid of God. Upon believing in Jesus and being forgiven, believers are to change and become someone new and different. The change should be so drastic that others cannot but help notice it.

People should now hear that the believer is talking about God and preaching against the sins the believer once lived in and lived for. As a new creation, people should see and hear something different about the believer than what was once seen and heard.

No matter who you are or where you live, people are watching you, hearing things about you and talking about you. Living for Christ, there should be a marked difference in your life compared to the time prior to your being a believer. People should be talking about that difference. It will impact other people to urge them to believe in the changing power of Jesus and lead them to believe in Him.

Examine your life and see if there is a difference between when you did not believe in Jesus to the current day and time as you now believe in Him. What will people hear about you?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will live your life for God; that you will allow the Holy Spirit to change your life; that others will see the change God has made in you; and that you will speak God’s word to the people.
