Hosea 14:9 Being Wise And Discerning

Who is wise? Let them realize these things. Who is discerning? Let them understand. The ways of the LORD are right; the righteous walk in them, but the rebellious stumble in them. Hosea 14:9

Hosea finishes out this book with telling whoever is wise and discerning to understand the ways of the Lord. Those who will be righteous and following God will walk in the ways of the Lord. Those who are rebellious will only stumble in the ways of the Lord.

Often the ways of God are very strange to a person. On the surface many of the things that God has done in the past does not always make sense, until it is looked at from a bigger picture or afterwards.

Looking at the bible, why would God take the Israelites out of the desert and trap them between an impassable body of water and the enemy?

Why would God tell David he is the next king, then make him wait 30 years to become king?

Why would God tell Hosea to marry a prostitute?

Why would God have the Messiah, who was supposed to reign forever, die on a cross?

It is easy now to look back at each of those events and see what God was doing and why. It makes sense, when the end picture is also seen.

However, in day-to-day living right now, one cannot see the end, and often, not even the big picture. God asks people to do things that do not always make sense. He allows things in the lives of a person that appear to be horrible and wrong. God asks a believer to give all he has. God asks one to forgive and love the enemy.

If you are wise and discerning, you will be able to know that ALL the ways of the Lord are right. He is perfect in all that He does. If you want to be righteous, you will walk in them.

Those who are rebellious will find every reason to not walk in God’s ways. They will reject the things of God. They will claim to love God, but refuse to love and forgive their enemy. The ways of God will appear to be foolish to them and they will reject them.

Are you being wise and discerning today?

I pray today that you will know the ways of God; that you will trust the ways of God; that you will obey all of God’s directions to you; and that you will be wise and discerning of the path God has for your life.

Hosea 14:2 Seek God’s Forgiveness

Take words with you and return to the LORD. Say to him: “Forgive all our sins and receive us graciously, that we may offer the fruit of our lips.” Hosea 14:2

Despite Israel prostituting themselves against God, rejecting Him and following false gods and idols, Hosea puts out a plea for them to go before God and ask for forgiveness. As they are to go, they are told to bring words with them to be able to offer the fruit of their lips.

In this world it is easy for a person to fall away from God. For just a few hours, may twice a week, a person is around many other believers. The rest of the time, most people are in this world among many more non-believers, or those who claim to believe, but do not live the life of a believer.

Most believers, do not completely walk away from God and totally reject Him, however, many do step away for a time to follow some sin. There are some that feel once they have done this multiple times, that God will reject them and that there is no longer any hope for them.

People of this world will forgive to a point, but if a person continues to do wrong, most will give up on that person forever. God does not work in the same way. He is waiting there for every person to come and seek forgiveness. God wants to forgive every person. It is what His heart is longing for. He thrives on forgiving and giving live.

No matter what you have done, no matter how bad it is, God is always waiting right there to forgive you. In order for Him to forgive you, you must ask for it. You must go before Him, repent of the sin and ask Him to forgive you.

Once God has forgiven you of any sin, you must offer the fruit of your lips. This is offering Him thanks, praise and worship. Give Him the honor and glory that is due Him. He did not have to forgive you. He had the right to destroy you, but He didn’t. Give Him praise with your lips. Praise Him directly and tell everyone what God has done for you and what He can do for them.

Return to God today.

I pray today that you will know God’s love for you; that you will return to Jesus; that you will seek forgiveness from God; that you will accept His forgiveness; and that you will give God praise all the time.

Hosea 13:6 After Being Fed

When I fed them, they were satisfied; when they were satisfied, they became proud; then they forgot me. Hosea 13:6

God had brought the Israelites up out of Egypt into the wilderness. While they were in the wilderness, He provided for all of their needs. They did not have to work hard to get the food that was required. Later, He gave them the land of Canaan for their possession without extreme hard work on their part. Once they had these things provided they were satisfied. As soon as they were satisfied, they forgot all about God.

When there is a crisis or a great need, it is easy for people to turn to God and seek His help. Every time that there is a major disaster or event in a nation, many people turn to God and start praying. They seek God’s assistance in their time of great need. Those who normally don’t mention anything about God and rarely go to a church service, suddenly talk about praying to God for help for themselves or for others in great need.

Later, when the need is met or the crisis is over, people forget about God. They are no longer talking about praying and seeking God’s help. They are satisfied and happy with themselves and this world.

This occurs with many believers in the church. In a time of crisis, they are constantly praying and asking others to pray, but stop the praying when the major crisis is over. When the belly is full and satisfied, people feel that they no longer need God. They feel that they have everything back under control.

As a believer, this should never be the case. No matter how well things are going for you, you are not the one in control. It is God who provides your every breath. Without your breath, you would be in a major crisis, you would be dead.

Do not make God to be only your 911 God. Make Him a part of your life all day, every day. No matter how good things are going, do not forget about God. It is He who made your day go well. It is God who provided for all of your needs to bless you.

Keep a song of praise and thanksgiving on your heart each day for all that He has done for you.

I pray today that you will know God’s provision and blessings in your life; that you will not forget God when things are going well; that you will give credit to God for all the good in your life; and that you will always seek God and praise Him daily.

Hosea 12:6 Waiting For God

But you must return to your God; maintain love and justice, and wait for your God always. Hosea 12:6

Jacob was the man whose family God chose to become His nation of people. In the beginning of Jacob’s time, he fought with an angel to get God’s blessings. He had to wait for God to provide those blessings. It took many years and a lot of struggles, but his children did receive the blessing and favor of God, they became a nation who followed God.

Over time the nation chose to walk away from God. Hosea is now calling them to return to God and follow His ways. Just like Jacob, they are told to wait for God.

Waiting is something that most people do not really like to do. People want what they want, and they want it right now. In fact, they want it ten minutes ago, now is too late. No matter how fast a computer is, people want it faster. No matter how fast the service is at a restaurant, some want it faster. People are impatient.

Believers have this same problem with God, they get very impatient. They stop and pray for a moment for something to happen or the favor of God in some situation, and expect their prayer to be answer in their way, right away. When God does not answer it in their way, right away, many think that God does not love them or did not hear them, or is against them. At that point, many choose to walk away from God and stop following His ways.

Following and believing in Jesus means that you will wait upon God for everything. You will trust that God has heard your prayers and will answer in His time and in His way.

As you are waiting on God to provide His answer to your prayer, you must maintain your love for God and for others. You must also stand true to His word and maintain the truth in this world.

Satan and this world will strive to get you to believe that God will not answer you, but it is not the truth. Wait on God and He will answer. He will not only answer you, but He will give you the best answer possible to your situation.

Are you trusting and waiting on God?

I pray today that you will know God hears your prayers; that God will give you the patience to wait for His answer; that you will ignore the lies of this world about God; and that you stay faithful to God as you wait for Him.

Hosea 11:4 Like A Loving Father

I led them with cords of human kindness, with ties of love. To them I was like one who lifts a little child to the cheek, and I bent down to feed them. Hosea 11:4

God had chosen Israel and made them His people and nation. He showed them kindness and love. He would lift them up and hold them close and provide food for them to eat. As He did this, the majority chose to reject Him and follow idols and false prophets.

Good fathers will show love to their children in various ways. One of those ways is lifting up a little child and giving them a great big hug. It is comforting to a child and lets the child know that he is loved and protected. It shows the child that his father is there for him.

Along with showing that love, they will also reach down to feed their child. In order for the child to grow in health, he must have good food to eat. The food that is fed can be both physical and spiritual food. The physical food is for the physical body to grow. The spiritual food, is food from the Bible and prayer, so that his spiritual soul can grow and mature in the Lord.

God is a very Good Father, who loves His children. Despite the actions of Israel, He was working on lifting them up and showing them His love.

Over the years, God has not changed the way He works with His people. He still wants to shower His love upon them. He still wants to hold each one close to His cheek and tell them that He loves them.

You are also included in this. Whether you follow Jesus or not, God wants to hold you close. He wants that close relationship with you each and every day.

If you are a follower of Jesus, you can know that God is holding you to help you through your days. There will be days when things will go wrong and you may feel afraid. God will hold you close and let you know that He is there for you and not against you.

Allow yourself to be lifted up in the arms of your heavenly Father and be loved. Return that love to Him for all that He has done for you and continues to do. He is a loving Father.

I pray today that you will know God as your Father; that you will know God’s love for you; and that you will show God your love for Him.

Hosea 10:12 Seek The LORD

Sow righteousness for yourselves, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the LORD, until he comes and showers his righteousness on you. Hosea 10:12

Hosea was describing Israel and how they had been a growing, powerful nation, but had chosen to walk away from God. They chose to follow idols rather than follow God. Now he is telling them that they must start sowing righteousness and love to prepare the way for the Lord’s return. The ground must be broken up. They are to seek God and His righteousness.

When a person has chosen to walk away from God, his heart has become a hardened ground, no longer sowing righteousness or love. Israel had become this way as they chose to do their own thing in rebellion to God. During the time of Israel, all righteousness was based on their own works for God. In the process of refusing to follow God, there would be no righteousness, thus no salvation.

Jesus brought the perfect righteousness to all people and is willing to shower it down on every person who accepts it. In order to accept His righteousness, one must turn from sin and strive to live for God a righteous life. The love that God is pouring out on a person, must be poured out again upon others. One must allow the Holy Spirit to break up the hardness of the heart living in sin, to be able to plant a living heart of flesh in his life.

Change must occur in the heart and life of a person, when he chooses to follow Jesus. The time to choose Jesus is now.

If you are not doing so already, it is time to follow Him with all of your heart. In this way you will be sowing righteousness and reaping the fruit of His unfailing love in your life and towards the lives of others. Jesus is ready to shower down His righteousness and holiness upon you, if you are willing to accept it.

As you seek Jesus, He will be found. Break up the ground of a sinful heart and make it one that is following Jesus. Take time each day to seek Jesus and know what He wants for you. He is coming again, and you do not want to be found not following Him.

I pray today that you will seek Jesus with all of your heart; that you will allow God to give you a heart of flesh; that you will know God’s love for you; that you will accept the righteousness of Jesus in your life; and that you will reap His unfailing love.

Hosea 9:2 The Food & Wine Will Fail

Threshing floors and winepresses will not feed the people; the new wine will fail them. Hosea 9:2

Hosea was telling the people of Israel to not rejoice. They had been found guilty of committing many sins and rejecting God. Punishment was coming to them. Many in Israel felt that because their crops were so good, that they would be able to support themselves and did not need God at all. They are warned that everything will fail them.

Farmers go out and plant huge fields of crops for food. They expect the crops to come in large enough to be able to feed their own family and sell a lot to others for more money, so they can get wealthy and feed more people.

On the surface this looks like it would provide for needs of all the people everywhere to get enough food. However, without God, those crops will not always come through as the farmer may expect. God has to be the one to provide the right amount of water and sunshine for those crops to grow. As people refuse to follow God and give Him all the credit, God pulls His hand of favor away and the crops will not grow as well, which will not feed the people.

Not every person grows food for themselves or for a profit. People use other things to make a profit and provide for themselves. Working many different types of jobs, people strive to have large bank accounts in order to provide for all of their needs. In the same way, if they are not following God and allowing Him to be in control, the bank accounts will fail. There will not be enough money to provide for all the needs one may have.

Life consists of more than just food and drink. One needs the nourishment of God and His word in his life on a daily basis.

As you are going through your life, what are you expecting to nourish you? Is it the food you buy with the money your job provided?

Or is it God providing through your job and His grace and mercy?

Keep your eyes and life focused on God and allow Him to be the one in control. Then God will provide for all of your needs. Your hands will work and be prosperous for your needs and the needs of others. Without God, they will fail.

I pray today that you will know God’s provision for your life; that you will trust in God alone; that God will provide for others through you; and that God will receive all the credit for the blessings in your life.
