2 Samuel 23:2 Are You Speaking His Words?

The Spirit of the Lord spoke through me; his word was on my tongue. 2 Samuel 23:2

Regardless of where one is there is always someone around who has something to say. They may talk about their day, their job, their children/grandchildren, their family, the things they are purchasing, politics or nearly anything else, but they will talk.

Some people like to quote what others have said or talked about. They will quote movies, books or speeches that they know about.

Either way they talk, they have something to say, some of value, some of little value and some even harmful.

David says that God’s Spirit spoke through him and gave him the words to say.

Talking about one’s day, the weather or even politics can have its place, but all of these things are just temporary. None of these things has a real place in eternity. New believers will often wonder what they are to talk about, especially when talking with someone still in the world as an unbeliever.

God knows what every person needs to hear at any given moment. He is willing to share what they need to hear by giving that information through His Holy Spirit. Just as God gave the prophets a word for the people in the Bible, He will give the believer a word for those around him.

The believer who is filled with the Holy Spirit and is listening will hear what God wants him to say. Along with that the believer must be reading, studying and memorizing Scriptures on a regular basis. This will allow for the Holy Spirit to bring back to remembrance what he has already been told giving him God word to speak into the lives of others.

God’s word can be on every believer’s lips. It is alive and able to change hearts and lives of people in all walks of life.

As a believer, God is ready and willing to share what He has to say to others through you. Open your heart and mind up to hearing what the Spirit is saying and then be bold and speak up at His leading.

Do not allow yourself to speak the words of the world that will only leading to disappointments and death in the end. Speak God’s word that will bring about hope and eternal life. Let God speak through you.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will hear what the Holy Spirit has to say; that you will speak the words of God; that others will hear you speak the words of God; and that lives will be changed and drawn to God with what you say.

Revelation 3:13 Are You Really Listening?

Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. Revelation 3:13

With all of the noise and busyness of life going on it is easy to hear without really hearing. They listen without really listening, but only hearing the words.

People hear what someone is saying, but a few seconds later could not repeat what was said, because they were not really listening. Others will hear it, but not take it to heart, acting upon what was said in obedience. Children are often blamed for doing this, but many adults have the same problem.

As Jesus was talking to the seven churches, He states that whoever has ears needs to hear what the Spirit is saying.

All throughout the church there are many believers who struggle with listening to God and really hearing what He is saying. God is always speaking, sometimes by His Spirit directly to a person, other times through another person, and other times through His word.

Words about repentance and leaving the life of sin are heard, but many do not repent or change at all. The Spirit will direct a person in what is needed to be done but is often ignored. Rather than listen and obey God, many choose to please self and the world bringing down judgement upon themselves.

Hearing what God says through His Spirit, His word and others does no good if there is no action put to what was said. It also shows that there is no trust in God or love for God when obedience does not follow.

Believers who hear and act upon God’s word show that they love and trust God with all of their heart, soul, mind and strength. They are not just warming a seat on Sunday mornings, but truly living for God.

God is active and speaking with you each day. The challenge for you is if you are willing to hear what He is saying.

There will be times God will point out to you that you are straying from the path you were once on or has you on. Other times He will point out that you are walking correctly and need to keep doing it.

His words are to correct, encourage and build up, not destroy as the world does. As you listen, hear and obey God’s word you will grow to be more like Jesus doing His will.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will hear what God is saying to you; that you will obey what God is commanding; and that you will trust God’s word to you.

Isaiah 34:1 Get Near And Listen

Come near, you nations, and listen: pay attention, you peoples! Let the earth hear, and all that is in it, the world, and all that comes out of it! Isaiah 34:1

Isaiah is calling all the nations to gather around and listen to what God is saying. God is angry with the nations, because of all the sin that is occurring. Isaiah is pointing to a future time in which God is going to bring out judgment upon all the nations. They will be judged for their sins and destroyed.

That call for the nations to listen has never changed. The time of God’s full judgment upon the nations and the people has yet to fully come. The final, ultimate judgment will be when Jesus returns to take His people home to heaven for all eternity. At that time God will judge every person by what they have done or not done.

Even today, people need to get together and listen to what God has to say. The world tries to say that God does not exist or is silent. Many believers will even say that God is silent and does not really speak to anyone anymore.

When Jesus left the earth, He sent back to the earth His Holy Spirit to be with each believer. God is still speaking today through His Holy Spirit.

What God has to say may be different for each person, but it is still important. He will point out things that need to change in your life, sins that need to be repented of and tossed out. God will also speak to you about what to say when you have an opportunity to be His witness. He will open doors for you to share the gospel message and His love and mercy with those around you.

If you are keeping your ears closed, you will not hear what God is trying to tell you. You will not hear what God is doing in this world. You will not hear how God is doing miracles in the lives of others and in your own life.

Turn off the phone and the music and listen for God to speak. Be willing to be silent for a moment and hear Him. He has great things to tell you, if you will just listen.

I pray today that you will hear God’s voice in your life; that you will follow God’s instructions; that you will be God’s voice to this world; and that God will do great things in and through you.

1 Samuel 3:10 Are You Listening?

The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.” 1 Samuel 3:10

Samuel was a young boy living in the temple with the high priest Eli. One night as he was sleeping he heard a voice call his name. He immediately runs to Eli thinking it was him, but it was not. After the second time of this happening, Eli realizes that it was God who was calling Samuel. Eli tells Samuel to answer God and listen to what He has to say. God calls Samuel a third time and Samuel answers Him and listens to Him.

At the time God had called Samuel, He had been silent for some time. The Israelites had turned away from God. Even Eli was not hearing from God anymore. When God decided to speak, it took a while for those hearing to know what was happening and who was speaking.

Many people today feel that God does not speak like that anymore. It is common to hear believers say that they cannot seem to hear God speaking.

It is not so much that God is not talking,  but that people are not really listening to what God has to say. People are filling their lives with the things and cares of this world. They are so busy that they cannot hear God speak and when they do hear Him, they don’t know who it really is and question it.

You may be in that position right now, wondering where God is and why He is silent. God is still there and always will be. He is also ready to speak and guide you in your life. He has many things to tell you, but you must be willing to listen.

Listening involves two things: physically hearing and then doing what was said.

Do not allow the things of this world to get you so busy that you cannot hear God’s voice talking to you. Do not let the cares of this world stop you from acting upon what you hear God say.

Ask yourself today if you are really listening to God.

I pray today that you will hear God’s voice clearly; that God will speak His truth into your life; that you will trust God’s Words and act upon them; and that you will not allow the noise of this world to drown out God’s talking to you.
