See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven, Hebrews 12:25
Years ago there was an ad that always said, “When E. F. Hutton speaks, everyone listens.” This was said because he was supposed to be an expert on investments. When one listened to him, it was supposed to be guaranteed one would have a great investment. Most people would listen to him and not reject his guidance.
As the author describes how great Jesus is, he then tells the people to be careful not to reject God who speaks from heaven or they will be rejected, because when the Israelites rejected Him when He spoke on earth, they did not escape judgement.
The world loves to listen to those who are wealthy or some great celebrity. Whatever those popular people speak, they will listen and follow blindly. It is seen that those who are famous must know what they are talking about, no matter what is said or if it makes sense or not.
When it comes to God speaking, the world rejects Him. They do not want to believe in God or what He says. Inside the church the same views will often occur. People feel as if it is an option to listen to what God is saying, they can listen or reject His words.
Although judgement may not occur immediately for not listening to God, there is coming a day of judgement. God is calling all to repent and obey Him. Those who reject His voice will find themselves judged in hell for all eternity.
Hearing what God has to say and obeying His words must be the first priority of every believer.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will hear what God is speaking to you; that you will not reject God’s words to you; and that you will obey all that God tells you.
