John 20:27 Stop Doubting & Believe

No doubt.jpg

Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” John 20:27

Many of the disciples had seen Jesus after his death and resurrection, however, Thomas had not. Thomas had stated that unless he could put his hands in the holes in Jesus’ hands and feet, he would not believe.

Jesus appeared to the disciples and told Thomas to put his hands in the holes. Then He said to stop doubting and believe.

Doubt is something that runs high among people all over the world. People doubt many different things. This is not surprising since the devil is a liar and lies bring about doubt. People cannot always know for certain whether what someone is saying is true or not. There is a lot of falsehood in this world, under many different disguises.

Sadly many people doubt that Jesus rose from the dead or is the Savior of the world.

What is more sad, is that many believers, those who claim to believe in and follow Jesus, often doubt His words.

Throughout the bible God has made many promises to those who believe in Him. Jesus promised to meet the believers every need; to remove all sin; to save for all eternity; and would never leave or forsake the believer.

Yet, when things are going rough, many stop believing His words and begin to doubt the bible. Many believers begin to worry about how things are going to turn out, because they are doubting God’s word. Fear and anxiety trouble many believers.

Although a believer cannot reach out and physically touch Jesus, he can look at God’s word and see what God has already done in His life and in the lives of others. When he sees that, he must stop doubting and start believing.

When you begin to doubt God, stop and look at your own life. Take note of how many times God has provided for you or His promises are seen in your life.

Now stop worrying about what is happening, and start believing the words of Jesus. Hide His word in your heart to remember what He said. Refuse to follow the ways of this world and doubt the truth.

Know the truth about Jesus and stop doubting. Stop doubting and start believing that God is with you and for you.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will believe that Jesus is alive; that you will believe all the words of God; and that you will no longer have any doubt in God’s promises.

Matthew 14:31 Why Doubt

“Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. You of little faith, he said, why did you doubt?” Matthew 14:31

This passage is the famous passage about Jesus and Peter walking on the water. Peter was in a boat and saw someone walking on the water that they thought was a ghost. Jesus said not to be afraid and that it was just Himself. Peter states that if it is really Jesus, he wanted Jesus to call him to walk on the water to him. Jesus calls him, and immediately, Peter gets out and starts walking on the water.

As he was walking, Peter sees the waves and gets scared and starts to sink. This is where this verse picks up.

Think about this for a moment. Peter has no fear of getting out of the boat and then is actually walking on water, which is impossible to do for man.

It is only when he sees the waves that he starts to doubt. Up to that point he had faith in Jesus that he could walk on the water. Jesus cannot understand why he started to doubt. Everything was going perfect, why start doubting?

Now think about your own life. You are following Jesus. Everything is going perfect. God is providing for all of your needs. It is easy to believe.

Now, all of a sudden, you see the waves of life starting to rise up: sickness, bills, pain, suffering, death and more. You begin to doubt that Jesus is really in control. You take your eyes off of Jesus and place them on those large waves in life.

At that point you start to doubt and begin to sink. Jesus will ask that same question: why do you doubt?

If Jesus is taking care of you during the good times, don’t you think He will take care of you during the rough times? God does not love you any less during the rough times in life. His love remains the same.

God will care for you through everything in life. Keep your eyes on Jesus at all times in all situations. Trust God through everything. Do not doubt.

I pray today that God will reveal His love to you; that God will reveal how He will care for you; that you will trust God in every situation; that you will not have any doubt in God at all; and that God will reveal His presence with you more and more.

Jude 22-23 Dealing With Doubters

“Be merciful to those who doubt; save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear–hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.” Jude 22-23

Everywhere you go there will be someone who doubts something in the Bible. Some of these people who doubt will be non-believers in the world. Others will be believers.

Very often when someone doubts something, the believer will tell that person they are crazy or being stupid. Many adults become like little children in name calling and condemnation. It is often stated “if you don’t believe this, you are going to hell”. While this is true about salvation in Jesus, it is not always true about everything else.

Here, Jude tells you to be merciful to those people. Do not judge them harshly right away. They may not have seen the light of truth yet. They do not have the right perspective to understand the truth.

Some of those that doubt you may be able to save by getting them away from what keeps them from believing. Get these people away from other unbelieving friends, away from sinful places and situations. This is getting them out of the fire.

Jude also states that as you show mercy, you must also have some fear mixed in. This is fear of getting caught up in the unbelief and doubt.

Over the years you have probably seen or heard of some great Christian who suddenly starts living a sinful lifestyle while stating it is acceptable in God’s eyes. They were probably around many people who led a false life of being a Christian. They began to have doubts about what God’s Word really says. Eventually fell to the temptation of living that lie.

If you are around those who doubt it is easy to begin to doubt. Just like being around someone who is down and out, it is difficult to be cheerful yourself.

Always flee all sin. Always flee all appearance of sin. Do not allow yourself to get stained with sinful thoughts and practices. Reach out to those in sin and attempt to snatch them from the fire, but remember to do it with mercy.

God had mercy on you when He saved you. You also must have mercy on others in the same way. God worked with you to bring you where you are today. Work with others who doubt to help them see the light of Jesus and the Truth.

I pray that God will help you to show mercy to others; that God will guide you in snatching others from the fire; that you will not allow yourself to be stained with sinful practices of others; and that God will use you to draw many to a saving knowledge in Jesus and His Truth.
