James 1:6 Belief, Not Doubt For Wisdom

But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. James 1:6

All around the world there are millions of people seeking wisdom. They want to know what is the best way to accomplish or avoid something. Books, people and spiritual things are consulted to find that wisdom.

Yet, in all the searching, many of those same people doubt a lot of what they are told or shown. As they doubt one thing, they move on to something different.

James opens his letter telling people that all a person must do to get wisdom is ask God, but in the process of asking to believe and not doubt. The person who doubts is like a wave, being tossed all about.

In the same way people doubt the information that they are given, many believers also doubt the wisdom that God gives. What God speaks is often heard, but rejected because it does not make sense, or there is pain involved, or it goes against normal ways of doing things.

Doubting what a person says makes sense, because people will fail and make mistakes. No person can fully see the full picture of life, past, present and future as God can.

God can see everything and understands it all perfectly. He knows what is best in every situation for every person involved. In knowing this so perfectly, God is able to give a person perfect wisdom in dealing with each and every situation in his life.

Believers who doubt God’s word will never believe anything, by God or by man. The doubter will keep searching for wisdom, even when perfect wisdom was given, because it does not fit his feelings at the moment, so he must never doubt God’s wisdom.

As with every person, you have situations in your life that you need wisdom in knowing how to deal with them. Before seeking wisdom among people and books, take time to ask God for that needed wisdom. God is waiting for you to ask and is more than willing to give it.

Upon hearing God speak wisdom into your life, you must immediately choose to believe it and act upon it. Do not allow the world’s ways of thinking to cloud your mind and cause you to doubt God’s word, but believe with no doubt.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will seek the wisdom of God for every situation in your life; that you will believe in and trust the wisdom of God; that you will not be tossed by every belief of the world; and that God will give you strength to move forward with the wisdom He provides you.
