Exodus 12:11 Eat Quickly

And thus you shall eat it: with a belt on your waist, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. So you shall eat it in haste. It is the Lord’s Passover. Exodus 12:11

Eating quickly is often done when one is in a hurry. There is an urgency to move quickly to get something accomplished. It could be for safety reasons or just to get something finished. It will allow a person to continue to move forward and not be held up in one spot.

As God was ready to send the last plague upon Egypt, He had Moses tell the people to prepare and eat a lamb. When they were to eat the lamb, they were to do it quickly, dressed ready to leave immediately. This meal was God’s Passover meal.

Grabbing a physical meal and eating quickly is often not recommended. People are generally told to slow down and eat the meal. However, there are times when a person must be in a rush for many different possible reasons. When in danger is on the way is one of the greatest reasons to eat quickly.

While eating a physical meal is important and needed, there is a spiritual meal that needs to be eaten even more. Eating of God’s word and of the words and teachings of Jesus take priority over everything in life.

The lamb the Israelites ate was symbolic of Jesus becoming the Lamb of God and dying on the cross. Those who desired to be saved need to eat of Jesus. This needs to be done quickly before death destroys them for eternity.

Taking a part of Jesus is what releases a person from the captivity to sin and death. As one eats of Jesus, one is able to quickly leave the life of sin and flee to the promised land.

There have been times in which you have had to eat quickly to move out quickly. In this same way, in this world there is sin and death all around you. Quickly eat of the words of God and believe in Jesus. Be ready to flee the sin that tries to take you out. Eat of the Passover that Jesus provided and live the life God has for you. Begin walking on the path to the new promised land of heaven while there is time.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will eat of the words of God; that you will flee the sin that is trying to destroy you; and that you will walk the path God has for you on your journey to heaven.
