And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts.” Revelation 21:6
When it is hot out or one is eating something very dry it is common to become very thirsty. The desire for a drink rises rapidly when one is thirsty. The body is crying out for something to restore it and give it some more life that is rapidly diminishing under the need for some liquid.
As John records the time of very end, he records Jesus saying that He is the Alpha and Omega, Beginning and End and that He will freely give the water of life to anyone who is thirsty.
There are many types of drinks one can drink. Though all the drinks are liquid, not all the drinks will quench a thirst. Salty liquids or ones filled with caffeine will do the opposite of quenching a thirst one may have. They will cause the body to dehydrate, rather than be quenched.
People are often thirsty for something and begin to search for what to drink. Commonly people will drink the temporary things of this world, money, wealth, fame, thinking that they will satisfy their thirst. Rather than meeting the need, they become more thirsty and drier. Life leaves them wanting more.
If one is truly thirsty and seeking relief, one can find it in Christ Jesus. He gives life that will be abundant and overflowing. It is a life that will be filled with joy and peace that the world cannot know nor understand. This new life will begin while living in this world and extends into all eternity.
The water of life is found in believing in what Jesus did on the cross and repenting of all sin.
When you get physically thirsty you turn to something physical to quench that thirst. In the same way your soul will get thirsty for something to drink. All the things of this world will only leave you more thirsty. Do not waste your time drinking the temporary things of this world, but drink of the water of life that Jesus offers you. Take in the life that Jesus bought for you on the cross nearly two thousand years ago and have your thirst for real life quenched.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will be thirsty for the things of God; that you will know the satisfaction you can have in Christ; and that you will know the abundant life Jesus provides.
