Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise. Proverbs 20:1
Alcoholic beverages are one of the most common drinks around the world. People love to have some wine or beer on a regular basis.
While there is nothing wrong with having a drink, it is often very difficult to stop right there. Many people will have multiple drinks. Usually enough drinks in order to get them drunk.
It is exactly at this point that a person is being led by the drink. The drink is now in control, and not himself.
In his wisdom, Solomon realized that wine and beer are dangerous if a person is led by them. One being led by alcohol is not being wise.
Being drunk is a common site to see among many people. It is also very common to hear of the results of one being drunk. Drunk driving, fights, harassments, and wrong words being said all come when one is drunk. They are being led by the alcohol, rather than by God.
Every believer is to be led by God. They are also to maintain self-control of everything that they think, say or do. Under the influence of wine or beer, one is not in self-control, nor are they allowing God to be in control, but are under the control of the wine or beer.
This is not wise for any person. It is giving up what is best for some short time pleasure that causes disaster. It will change the character of a person, causing him to say and do things that he would not normally do.
Families, friendships, and jobs are often destroyed by the influence of wine and beer in the life of a person. While the world may enjoy traveling down this road, the believer must seek to avoid it and be led by God’s Holy Spirit, not wine and beer.
You may be one who enjoys a little wine or beer once in a while. Be careful that you do not allow yourself to be overcome by the alcohol. Do not allow it to control you.
It is better to abstain from all alcohol, than to be controlled by it, even one time. It can quickly cause you to do irreparable damage in your life.
Allow God to fill you with His Holy Spirit to bring you His peace and rest after a hard day. Allow God to control your life, not some man-made thing.
I pray today that God will give you wisdom in all of your decisions; that you will choose to be led by God in all areas of your life; that God will give you strength to not be led by alcohol; and that God will keep you from the sin of being drunk.
