Psalm 42:1-2 Who Do You Want To Spend Time With?

Deer drinking water

As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? Psalm 42:1-2

Most people have a special friend that they love to spend time with. They look forward to time together. The newly married couple are always seeking to be together. While one is at work, they are thinking constantly about each other and cannot be separated, unless it is absolutely necessary.

This can also be seen in the business world. There are certain business men or women that people would love to spend some time with. They want to learn from that person and gain their knowledge or experience. Some will spend thousands of dollars just to be able to spend a few minutes with a person.

The writer of this psalm talks about a panting desire to be with God. He is thirsting as a deer thirsts for water to spend time with God. He wants to be in God’s presence.

While spending time with people can be good, there is one who is better to spend time with. People can provide some temporary help or comfort, but God can provide for eternal help and comfort.

In church there are many people who believe in God, but He is not the center of their lives. He is not what they seek and want the most in their lives. They are busy with other things in their lives.

The picture of a deer panting for water is one of who is desperate for water. It is one of life and death. Without water, one will die, it is needed.

The same is with God. God should be the most important person in one’s life. So much so that without God, one would feel as if he would die.

There may be many things in your life that you would like to have. Some of which you may think you need to have. However, the most important thing to have is God in the center of your life.

Spending time with God should be your greatest concern in your life. Stopping the rest of life to be with God should be a common scene in your life. Without God, you will make poor choices, you will be weak, and you will lose the battles in this life.

With God you will have joy, peace, strength and comfort for everything. What are you desperate for today?

I pray today that you will know God personally; that you will desire to spend time with God; that you will know God’s presence in your life daily; and that God will be the center of your life.

John 6:35 Are You Hungry & Thirsty?

Water and Bread

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” John 6:35

The people were talking about believing the scriptures of God, the Old Testament. They were unwilling to believe in Jesus, even though Moses talked about Him, yet they were willing to follow Moses. Jesus then tells them that He is the bread of life and all need to come to Him to be satisfied.

All over the world there are people who are physically hungry and thirsty for real food and water. The reasons for not having enough food and water are different with different people. Some of the cases it is the result of the actions of other people. In some cases it is the cause of draught and famine in the land, natural causes.

There are many people who have more than enough food and water, but are still hungry and thirsty. They have a spiritual hunger and thirst. People want purpose and meaning in this life to feel fulfilled and satisfied. The majority of people seek things of this world to bring them this needed satisfaction. However, they can never get enough, they continue to hunger for more, never being satisfied.

The spiritual hunger that they are feeling can only be satisfied in Jesus. Believing in and following Jesus will give a person purpose in this life. With Jesus one will never have a spiritual hunger for something that does not satisfy. Believing in Jesus will give a person the desire to do the mission that God has for him in this world–to seek and save the lost.

Along with the food, they will also receive God’s Holy Spirit. They will be able to drink in His Spirit and be filled with strength, power, and a refreshing that allows them to keep going. They will be satisfied.

If you are going through life hungry for more in this life, seek Jesus. Take in His words. Then follow His mission in this world. As you fulfill the purpose God has for you in this life, you will be satisfied more than anything this world can offer.

God will fill every need you have as you follow and trust in Jesus. Do not allow yourself to continue to be hungry and thirsty. Believe in and trust Jesus with your life.

I pray today that you will believe in Jesus; that you will do the work God has for you; that you will find satisfaction and fulfillment in following Jesus; and that you will be a witness of Jesus to this world.

Isaiah 55:1-2 Eat And Drink The Best

“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy?” Isaiah 55:1-2

Being hungry and thirsty is something that every person has to deal with, some more than others. At times one will be more thirsty, in the hot summer time in the south, while at other times one may be more hungry. Most people can satisfy their physical hunger and thirst without too much problem, but both will return very soon.

However, there is another hunger and thirst that many people have that is much harder to be satisfied. It is hunger for meaning and satisfaction in life. Some people are always seeking a bigger, better thrill in life to keep them moving forward. Many turn to drugs and alcohol to be satisfied. Others may seek better jobs and positions, or maybe seeking peace, quiet and solitude to find meaning.

While all of these things can satisfy for a short time, they will not sustain a person in the long haul of life. Each of these things are temporary and wear off. After a time, the thrill of one thing will not be enough and more will be sought out.

God is calling people to take what He is giving to be satisfied. The life that Jesus is offering does not cost in the manner of money or hard labor. All it costs is accepting and giving your life to Him. In return you gain eternal life, peace, and satisfaction regardless of what is going on in your life or in this world.

In order to eat and drink what God is offering, you must get into His Word, the Bible. Read it and get to know who God is and what He has for you. Then step out in trust and do what His word says.

As you do these things, you will find satisfaction that will stay with you and not end in a few hours. As you continue to live for God, you will find purpose and meaning for your life that will satisfy better than anything this world has to offer.

Don’t labor for what does not satisfy, try God.

I pray today that you will know God; that you will hunger for His Word; that you will be satisfied with God alone in your life; that you will find purpose in serving God; and that God will meet all of your needs.

Isaiah 22:12-13 Weeping Instead Of Rejoicing

The Lord, the LORD Almighty, called you on that day to weep and to wail, to tear out your hair and put on sackcloth. But see, there is joy and revelry, slaughtering of cattle and killing of sheep, eating of meat and drinking of wine! “Let us eat and drink,” you say, “for tomorrow we die!” Isaiah 22:12-13

The people of Jerusalem had turned away from God and chosen to follow idols and sin against God. Multiple times God called for them to repent and turn back to Him. Instead of turning back to Him, they continued living their life as if in a great party, not caring. In doing this, it brought on God’s wrath and His call to destroy the city.

People of the world do not know God and live their lives in the moment. They want to eat, drink and be merry, because they know that they will die soon. Enjoyment of life in the moment is the highest priority.

Talking about something that is bad is not anything most people want to do. When believers bring up the idea of sin and not living for God, the world will turn them away, because they are living in sin and don’t want to change. For those in the world, this can be expected.

Believers should show a different picture. When there is sin, a believer should be weeping and repenting of that sin.

The sad part is that many believers try to explain their sin away. They enjoy the sinful pleasures and do not want to change. Each person looks at different sins in different ways. However, in God’s eyes all sin is sin.

If you examine your life and see sin in it, you need to weep before God and repent of those sins. Do not continue on with life as though nothing will happen. A day of judgement is in store for all sin.

Along with personal sin, you must also weep for the sins of others. Sin affects every person in many ways, not just the one doing it.

Do not just ignore sin and party. God is watching, but He is also waiting for you to repent so that He can forgive you and give you true life and joy. The sin of this world is temporary, but the joy of God lasts for eternity.

I pray today that God will strengthen you to turn from all sin; that you will weep over the sins of others; that you will seek forgiveness from God; that you will know the forgiveness Jesus provides; and that you will live for God.
