For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Hebrews 4:15
Having someone who fully understands what one is going through is hard to find for most people. Some can understand to a point, but often fall short due to other circumstances that made it much different. When a person fully understands a situation and struggle someone is in, it can bring great comfort and strength to keep moving forward, rather than give up and stop.
In describing Jesus, the author of Hebrews calls Him the High Priest and one who has compassion for the weakness of believers because He was tempted in the same way but remained sinless.
Most people have a friend or two that has compassion on them for difficult situations that they are in. There is a partial understanding of the difficulties in life that many have gone through. Those who have passed through those challenges in life can help encourage others that they will make it also and to not quit or throw the towel in.
Everyone, who is a believer, has an understanding of the temptation to sin. Each one has been tempted in some form or another. The problem is most everyone has fallen for those same temptations and sinned against God.
Jesus, although God in the flesh, has been tempted in every way that is common to mankind, yet has never sinned against God. He made the choice, difficult as it was, to not sin. In doing this, Jesus understands the troubles people go through in temptation.
Jesus has grace and mercy when one sins and offers forgiveness. Then He can give strength to overcome the temptations and make the right choice to not sin.
Just like every other person, you will be tempted to sin against God. There will be times when you will fall into that temptation and sin. Do not be afraid to run to God in those times. Unlike the human high priests, know that Jesus, our Great High Priest of all time, understands what you are going through. Lean on Him for strength and forgiveness. He is ready to lead you in the right way and show you the path out of every temptation, having been there Himself.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know Jesus as your High Priest; that God will give you strength to flee all temptation; that God will give you the help you need in the time you need it; and that you will live for God in every area of your life.
