Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 2 Timothy 1:6
Children, as they are growing up, individually, often have certain abilities that they can do better than most other people. Parents and teachers who recognize those abilities will encourage the child to run with them and build them up and use them to do great things in life. One is able to do much more with a talent that comes naturally, than one that they have to fight to learn.
Paul encourages Timothy, in his second letter to him, to stir up what God had given in him through laying on of hands.
Every adult has certain talents or abilities that they can excel in more than most people. Grabbing on to those talents and using them, however, is often very rare. Most people do not want to go the extra mile it takes to be great at something. They are satisfied with the status quo.
In order to use something at its greatest potential one must work at it and use it, growing daily in one’s abilities. Fear of failure and weakness keeps many from growing and learning.
Believers can often fall into this same trap. God gives them a talent that He wants them to use that talent to build His kingdom, but they walk in fear and don’t use it. They keep the gift wrapped up inside them and never open it up to be used as God had intended.
All power and authority in heaven and earth has been given to the believer to do what is needed to be done. Each believer has a part to do and has been given the talent to do it in a way no one else can do it, so they must stir it up and use it for God’s glory.
You have some abilities and talents that God has given you to be able to use. Each day you have a choice as to whether you will use those talents or not to build up His kingdom. Do not allow yourself to keep those talents wrapped up and never be used. God out and do what God has given you the ability to do. Walk and work in His power and strength, being led by His Holy Spirit in building His kingdom.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will reveal His gift He has given you; that you will use the talent God has given you to build His kingdom; and that work in the power and strength God has for you.
