And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John 8:32
No one likes to be in bondage to anyone or anything. People love their freedom that they can get. Due to lack of the knowledge of truth, many people do not recognize that they are in bondage and are not really free. They have lived with the bondage so long that they cannot understand true freedom until they hear the truth about the bondage and what life really can be.
John records Jesus talking to those who believed in Him. He told them that they shall know the truth and that truth shall set them free.
The world is constantly pushing the idea that truth is only what the individual believes in true. Only what the individual thinks or feels is truth, regardless of what others may think or say. As a result, the world is in a bondage to sin, darkness and lies that they cannot see nor comprehend.
Freedom is completely about self and what self can do with no consequences. On the surface one may look free, but underneath, that one is bound to sin and death. In the end there is no hope or bright future.
The moment one turns to the Truth–Jesus, one understands what sin is and the bondage one is in. Jesus then provides forgiveness and breaks the chains of sin and death that is upon one’s life.
Then a person is free to live life, not anyway one wants, but to live life the way God had intended life to be lived–in holiness, righteousness, peace, joy and more. This is a life no longer bound by sin and death, but one that is filled with the hope of eternity.
Being bound is something you most likely do not want to have happen to you. Freedom to really live life is most likely a desire you have. Believe on Jesus and know God’s truth, both spoken and written in His word, in your life to be completely set free to really live an abundant, fruitful and purposeful life here in this dark world of death and bondage.
Be free to flee sin and walk in obedience with God each and every day as you look forward to the day of His return and stepping into eternity in heaven.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the truth of God and His word in your life; that you will allow God’s truth to guide your every move; and that you will know the true life you can have in knowing God’s truth.
