Decision Points (book review)
George W. Bush was the 43rd president of the United States from 2001-2009. Prior to being the president, he had been the governor of Texas. After leaving the presidency and going back to civilian life, President George Bush chose to write a book about his time in the capital. The focus of his book was to be on some of the major decisions that he had to make prior to being the president and during his time in office.
One of the first major decisions he makes in his life that he considers influencing all of the other decisions was the choice to believe in Jesus. He talks about how that turned his life around and got him on the right path in life. Each chapter is focused on some major decision that he had to make.
Some of the topics were on Iraq, Afghanistan, stem cell research, 9/11, major national disasters and the economy. There were some choices he made that were not supported by the majority and never was completed. Other choices were made, both good and bad. He admits he is quick to own up to bad decisions he made.
It is very interesting to read how he interacts with other world leaders and leaders in America to deal with various challenges as the president. He gives an insight into some of the world leaders and their responses. He also points out the challenges of bringing both the Republicans and Democrats to agree on some issue.
Nowhere in the book does President Bush cut some leader or worker under him down, though he admits that there were many times there were disagreements. He also talks about the horror and sorrow he felt when people died on his watch. President Bush felt that he was supposed to be the one to lead and protect America from all situations.
Reading this book has been interesting in that it occurred during my lifetime in which I was very politically aware of what was going on in the nation. I remembered a lot of the events and recognized many of the names. It was very interesting to hear his side of the story versus the media stories that were put out.
I recommend reading this book to look into the heart and soul of George W. Bush, the 43rd president of the United States. It is a longer read, but easy to read and understand.
