Pilate answered and said to them again, “What then do you want me to do with Him whom you call the King of the Jews?” So they cried out again, “Crucify Him!” Mark 15:12-13
Going against a crowd is extremely difficult for most people to do. When hearing about a negative direction a crowd is going, most people will state they would never do it. However, many follow the crowds, even when doing so goes against one’s own feelings or standards. Looking back on history, many will also claim that they would never do what was done.
Mark records that Pilate asked the crowd what do to do with Jesus and the people cried out for Him to be crucified.
Looking back on an event that contained extreme violence, most people claim they would never have participated in it. Sitting in their easy chair at home being comfortable it is easy to make those claims. They are looking from outside the situation as though they are better than the average person.
The crucifixion of Jesus was an extremely violent act that was brought on by a few and pushed by the majority. Very few people would want to call for the violent death of an innocent man, yet that is what every person has done and is often doing.
People feel that they are overall good in character. Viewing themselves in light of others that may be true. Yet, viewing themselves in light of God’s holiness, it is not true.
Every time a person sins, that person is calling out for the crucifixion of Jesus. Everyone is guilty of sin and the death of Jesus. It is sin which required His death upon the cross. God used that death to be able to pay the price for sin so that every person could have eternal life.
As a person, you probably see yourself as a fairly good person. You don’t agree with extreme violence or murder. Yet, every time you have sinned against God, your actions called for the murder of Jesus upon the cross. Jesus paid the price for your sins so that God could forgive you and give you eternal life.
Accept the fact that you went with the crowd with your sins putting Him on the cross. Repent of those sins and accept His forgiveness and the gift of eternal life. Go against the crowd today and believe in Jesus.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will reveal what your sins has done; that you will repent of all sin against God; and that you will believe in the work Jesus did on the cross for you.
