Matthew 26:45 Sleeping During Dangerous Times

Then He came to His disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners.” Matthew 26:45

Getting rest and sleep is the desire of most people, especially after a hard day at work. People want to sit back, kick up their feet and rest. All the needed chores are often cast aside or ignored in order to get that time of rest and relaxation.

Matthew writes that when Jesus was in the garden to pray the disciples fell asleep. Jesus asks them if they are still sleeping because now it was the time for Him to be betrayed into the hands of sinners.

While people are willing to go to work each day, most people do not want to work. Relaxation is the first thing on their minds. It could be physical sleeping, but often it is going out and doing something that is fun. All it comes down to is no longer having to work hard.

Often after a long day at work one must come home to various chores that need to be done. This could be doing laundry, cooking a meal, maintenance on a vehicle or in the house, caring for children, or some other needed chore. Many of these things take extra work.

Every day believers are faced with attacks by the enemy, alongside their normal everyday work that they do. Instead of physically sitting down and relaxing or going to sleep, believers need to spend time in prayer.

The enemy is always gearing up to attack again. Prayer is what gets one in tune with God and what He is doing. It gives the believer strength and the armor to face the enemy and be victorious.

At the end of each workday, you have choices to make as to what you will do. The many things that must be done must be prioritized as to what is most important. Some things can be put on the back burner and ignored, but there are some things that must be done.

One thing that should be done is spending time with God in prayer. Let Him know what you are thinking and doing and find out what He is thinking and doing. Keep yourself focused upon God so that the enemy cannot get in and turn you away into sin.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will spend time in praying to God; that God will keep you armed to defeat the enemy’s attacks; that you will not be one to betray God to the enemy; and that you will not be found resting in time of battle.
