Malachi 2:5 A Reason For God’s Covenant

My covenant was with him, one of life and peace, and I gave them to him that he might fear Me; so he feared Me and was reverent before My name. Malachi 2:5

Treaties are made all the time between two nations for peace. Various agreements are made to keep two groups from fighting each other. Both sides have to agree to the treaty and obey it in order for it to be effective. As both follow the treaty, both sides will be able to have life and peace.

Malachi records God saying that He made a covenant of life and peace with Levi so that he would fear Him and be reverent before Him. Levi did fear God and was reverent before Him.

While the world is quick to make treaties with each other, many are very quick to break those treaties. They do not have respect and fear of each other to keep from breaking the treaties.

In the beginning of the earth, God created mankind to have life and peace as they walked with Him. After mankind chose to sin against Him, God made a new covenant with people to have life and peace.

The covenant with Levi was one of the written law of God. It was one of do or die. There was no grace, yet Levi was able to respect God and obey His commands.

God has made a new covenant with people through the death and resurrection of Jesus. He wants to give life and have peace with every person.

Believers are to be changed, transformed into a new creation by the blood of Jesus, and have life and peace with God and have proper respect for His commands. They are to live a holy and righteous life that God has given them.

God has made a covenant with you through Jesus Christ. You did nothing to deserve this covenant, yet God made it with you to give you life and so that you will have a healthy fear of Him. Knowing this, you must ask yourself if you fear God and are reverent before Him. When God speaks and gives a command, are you quick to obey it? Or do you complain about it and ignore that command?

He is leading you to have true peace and life in Jesus Christ. Trust and respect Him with a holy fear so that you will obey His commands.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know God’s covenant with you; that you will respect God with all of your words, thoughts and actions; and that you will know the abundant life God has for you.
