Are you not from everlasting, O Lord my God, my Holy One? We shall not die. O Lord, You have appointed them for judgement; O Rock, You have marked them for correction. Habakkuk 1:12
Going through difficult times is very hard for most people. It can sometimes appear as though one is going to die and not survive the difficulty. The troubles can overwhelm a person to the point of death. This can feel that one will literally die, while other times it is more figuratively.
Habakkuk recognizes that God is everlasting and that even in great trials and judgement, they will not die. Those bringing on the judgement against Israel are marked for judgement and correction.
God sometimes allows the world to bring on trouble into the life of a believer that is straying from His path. This is often done through people who are evil and do not directly believe in nor serve God. Using the world in this way is sometimes to bring correction into the life of a believer who has strayed away from God into sin.
The purpose of correction is to get the believer to leave some sin and to get one’s attention back on Him. During this time of correction, one may feel as though one may die and it will be all over. Instead of losing all hope, one must turn to God and trust Him.
Though one may feel that death is coming, one will not die if one believes in Christ and follows Him. Physical death may or may not come, but there is eternal life to look forward to. After physical death, if it occurs, the believer will be raised to eternal life.
Those who do not believe in Christ will have only eternal death and judgement to look forward to.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will trust God with your whole life; that you will not lose hope in Jesus during times of trouble; and that you will look forward to the eternal life God has promised you in Christ Jesus.
