And though they hide themselves on top of Carmel, from there I will search and take them; though they hide from My sight at the bottom of the sea, from there I will command the serpent, and it shall bite them; Amos 9:3
Children often like to play hid-and-seek. One child will hide, while one or more will try to find the hidden one. The better one hides, the longer it takes for the seeker to find. Sometimes the seeker will have to give up for not finding one or more of the hidden ones.
Amos records God saying that even if the people hide themselves on the top of Carmel or down in the bottom of the sea, He will find them and have them struck in judgement.
As people grow up, many quit playing the physical game of hide-and-seek. Although they have quit the physical game, many continue to play that game with God.
It begins with people who refuse to even follow God when given the opportunity. God sends witnesses to them, and they continue to try to hide and ignore the truth so that they can continue to live in their sin.
Others have become believers, but purposefully continue to live in sinful habits. They strive to live behind false beliefs to attempt to cover up their sin while still claiming to believe in Jesus. The bible is very rarely opened and read, so that they are not confronted with the truth.
Although these people may appear to be hidden from God, He will still find search for them. While they are alive on this earth, it is His goal to draw their hearts to Him in repentance. However, if they do not repent before death or the return of Jesus, God will find them and judge them with eternal death.
You probably remember playing hide-and-seek with your friends when you were a child. The results of being found or not being found were only temporary in that game.
As an adult, do not allow yourself to be caught up in playing hide-and-seek with God. No matter where you go emotionally or spiritually, God can see you. If you choose to live in sin, God will strike you to get you back to Him. If you choose to not repent, the final judgement will find you. Make yourself available to God. Allow Him to change your life.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will allow God to find you; that you will allow God’s Spirit and Word to change you; and that you will obey God’s commands to not live in sin.
