Woe to you who put far off the day of doom, who cause the seat of violence to come near; who lie on beds of ivory, stretch out on your couches, eat lambs from the flock and calves from the midst of the stall; Amos 6:3-4
All around the world people eat many different types of food every day. Some of those foods are very healthy, while others are unhealthy and cause problems in the long run. People often eat to please themselves in the moment without regard to the future.
Amos writes woe to those bring on violence while living a life of luxury and to those who eat the lambs and calves from the flocks.
Lambs are the youngest of the sheep and calves are the youngest of the cows. They have to be protected from the wolves and other wild animals. In the same way, children are the young of human beings and have to be protected from harm.
In many nations the young are being eaten alive by the world of sin. Adults are teaching the children how to sin and live a life of sin more and more. They are taught how to lie, cheat, kill, be proud, be greedy, destroy, be sexually immoral and much more as though these things are a right and are good. Sin is being presented as good and a right to have.
Some of this is also occurring inside the church. God’s judgement is coming for those who lead others astray into sin, eating up the young.
Believers need to take a stand against sinful practices and point children and adults to Christ, rather than bringing on God’s judgement. They need to build the young up in the Lord and His ways. Jesus came to remove sin and give life, not to eat the young and destroy them.
It does take much for you to take a look around you and see the sin that is being promoted. Much of that sin is being pushed upon children as though good. Do not allow yourself to partake in pushing sin upon the lambs and calves. Flee all sin.
Point people to Christ and the salvation that He provides. Show a different way of living that is true life. Protect the young all around you, both the physically young and the young in the Lord, from the sin of this fallen world.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will reveal to you ways that the young are being eaten by the world around you; that God will show you ways to bring the young to Christ; and that God will give you strength to overcome the sinful practices of this world.
