Jeremiah 13:10 Are You Profitable For Nothing?

This evil people, who refuse to hear My words, who follow the dictates of their hearts, and walk after other gods to serve them and worship them, shall be just like this sash which is profitable for nothing. Jeremiah 13:10

If something is not taken care of, it can lose its value. Things wear down and fall apart without proper care and maintenance. It is common for many people to not provide the proper maintenance of things they possess. Often it is out of laziness and believing there is nothing wrong and that nothing is needed to be done.

Jeremiah quotes God in talking about the Israelites as being an evil people who refused to hear His words and follow after false gods. He says that they will be like a worthless sash or belt that has no value because it was destroyed by improper care.

Communities and nations have risen up in power and greatness over the years and then suddenly crumbled to nothing. Often it can be seen that those nations had believed in and followed God as a whole for a time. Then over time they chose to follow their own hearts and false gods, rejecting God and His ways. God had removed their glory and value.

People today will often neglect taking care of what is most important in order to have immediate pleasure. Choosing to follow false gods of sexual immorality, violence, hatred, theft, endless partying, drugs, gossip and other sins, people lose their use. They become profitable for nothing and getting tossed out in the end in the lake of fire.

Instead of following the false gods of this world, one needs to follow after God and His ways. Rejecting the immediate pleasures of sin, one needs to obey God’s commands. In doing so, God can use one to do great things and God will pour out many blessings and favor.

God has placed a high value upon your life in giving His Son to give you life. Do not throw away all of that value by following the false gods of this world and be rejected by God as worthless and of no value any longer. Focus your life on hearing God’s word and obeying His word to you. Allow God to use you as a great tool in His kingdom here on this earth and give you great value.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as Lord and Savior; that you will hear God’s words to you; that you will obey God’s word in your life; that you will not follow the false gods of this world; and that you will see the value you have in God’s sight.
