Noah Man of Destiny (book review)
The authors, Tim Chaffey and K. Marie Adams, set out to write trilogy series on the life of Noah after having done a lot of research into what life may have been like during the time of Noah. At the beginning they immediately tell the reader that with the very little information that is written about Noah in the bible and take some liberty at filling in what his life may have been like that is not recorded. They are very clear that this is only speculation and not to be taken as scriptural.
Tim Chaffey is a former pastor and teacher. He became the Content Manager for the Ark Encounter, located in Williamstown, Kentucky. He has written many books and articles on the flood and creation.
In this first book of the trilogy, Noah as a younger person is brought on to the scene and what his family life and upbringing may have been like all the way through his marriage. The scene of the sinful corruption of the world is begun to be seen little by little. They also set up how he was able to learn how to build ships. In this beginning book there is nothing to show that there is a coming flood or a building of the ark.
It is very interesting how they bring in various people of the bible and the belief in God and the unbelief in God. Characters have questions and thoughts that can be often seen or heard to this day about God. Throughout this novel there is some mystery, excitement, violence, romance and adventure all mixed in.
At the end of the book, the authors post various questions that many people have asked over the years concerning Noah and life during his time and the flood. One example of the questions is whether people really lived to be 900 years old as recorded in the Bible. They give both biblical and scientific evidence for their reasonings to the questions that they ask. They are also very clear when there is no direct clear answer, but they have taken liberty to hold to one view or another and why they hold that view.
Another section in the book shows what they distinctly took from the Bible to set up their story, listing which chapter it is found in the story. They also list off various things that are in the story that can be seen at the Ark Encounter.
I highly recommend reading this book if you are interested in what Noah and life during his time may have been like. It is an easy read and very interesting. There is nothing that I saw that can be distinctly seen as against scripture.
