Ecclesiastes 9:8 White Garments And Oil

Let your garments always be white, and let your head lack no oil. Ecclesiastes 9:8

Having all the things a person needs is the desire of every person. Most would like to have nice clean clothes and enough money to meet all of their needs in abundance so that they can have extra for play. People are quick to want to have people blessed to be able to have all that they want so that they can have a good life with no problems or dirt.

Solomon gives a blessing that the person reading would have garments that are always white, and that the person’s head would never lack for oil.

During the biblical times, having a white garment was very difficult. Walking on dusty roads kept clothes brown from all the dust. There were also difficulties in finding clean enough water and chemicals to get clothes completely white. Thus, white clothes were found only on the wealthy and privileged citizens.

Oil was also seen as a symbol of wealth, especially when poured upon the head. It was used in cooking and trading. To pour it upon the head was to waste it, but showed the level of blessing a person has.

Believers today do not need clean and white physical garments, but they do need to be dressed in the white robe of the righteousness of Jesus. All sin in their lives are to be removed by the blood of Jesus.

Once this is done, they are to have the oil of the Holy Spirit poured down upon their head. The Holy Spirit guarantees the salvation and empowers the believer to do the work of God and to resist sin, guiding the believer in the ways of God.

May every believer have garments that are always white with righteousness and their heads overflowing with oil of the Holy Spirit.

Every week, or more often, you wash your clothes to keep them clean and looking good. The physical cleaning is representative of what the blood of Jesus does in your life. You are to be clothed with His righteousness, clean and pure before God. Once you are cleansed from sin, allow the Holy Spirit to poured on head, heart and life, to guide you in all righteousness to receive the blessings and promises of God. May your garments always be white and oil always pouring on your head.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the righteousness Jesus has for you; that you will be clothed with the righteousness and holiness of Jesus; that you will allow the Holy Spirit to overflow in your life each day.
