They Walked With God (book review)

Max Lucado has written many different books over the years. I have read many and always enjoyed them. With this book, Max continues to keep a very high quality of writing.

He takes a look at forty different people throughout the Bible and shows how they walked with God in various ways and each with a different circumstance in their lives. Each chapter is about a different person.

Naturally some of the famous people, such as David, Job, Lazarus and Paul, along with other famous names are written about. However, he also takes a look at a number of people who the Bible does not give a name to, such as: the rich young ruler, the Samaritan woman, a demoniac, a leper, and others.

Each of the chapters are about five pages long, plus two pages asking four questions. Max shows a little of what scriptures say about the person and then talks about what the person’s thoughts might have been. He will also then apply their lives to someone in today’s timeframe.

At the end of each chapter, he asks about four questions to make a person think more about what can be learned from each person’s story and how to apply it to one’s life. Some of these questions are very challenging to a person.

With the chapters so short, it is very easy to read one is just a few minutes, allowing more time to think about the questions and one’s own life. One can also see how the character’s life can be applicable to someone today.

I highly recommend reading this book. Allow it to challenge you to walk with God in your own life and accept what God has for you.
