Happy are the people who are in such a state; happy are the people whose God is the Lord! Psalm 144:15
All throughout the nation and around the world people are often depressed and sad. They are searching for meaning and purpose in life and desire to be happy but are unable to find the desired happiness. Being happy is something that rarely occurs and flees away very quickly. Medications and drugs of various types are taken by millions of people to help them overcome their depression and make them happy.
After describing people who are blessed by God, he states that it is those people who are happy and those who make God their Lord that are happy.
Everywhere a person turns there is violence and disaster occurring. People are sick and dying all the time. Crime appears to be rampant. Needed things are unaffordable. Hatred runs through the veins of many.
As these things occur, people get depressed and want to end their lives. There is no joy or happiness in their lives. Life appears to be meaningless and without any purpose or happiness.
The world rejects God, because with God there are boundaries to live by. It is no longer about self, but about God and others.
Instead of living for self, believers have chosen to make God the Lord and Master of their lives. They do not see His boundaries and rules as chains, but are life giving, full of purpose and meaning. His commands bring about abundant life when one believes in them and follows them. God gave His Holy Spirit to give the believer strength to follow Him.
In having this full and abundant life, full of meaning and purpose, believers will be happy and full of joy, even in the midst of disaster, trouble and chaos.
As you go through your days, how much happiness to you have in your own life? Is happiness something that appears to flee from you and avoid you?
Do not turn to the fallen and sinful things of this world but give your life to God and make Jesus the Lord and Master of your life. Allow God to direct your paths in everything you think, say or do. Know the joy that Jesus provides in salvation of your soul. Know the happiness you can have as God is the Lord of your life.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the happiness God is willing to give you as you serve Him; that you will find joy in serving God as your Master of your life; and that God will break off the chains this world has put on you.
