The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool.” Psalm 110:1
The right hand of a person is usually seen as one of authority and power. It is often a privileged position that not everyone is allowed to have. Whoever has that position has the authority of the person on one’s left. People desire to have that position in order to be at the top of the chain of authority because most like to be the one who is in control of all others.
David, in a prophecy about Jesus, stated that God said to his Lord that He should sit as His right hand until all of His enemies would be made His footstool.
Leaders of this earth have authority of a group of people. Some are just over a small group, while others may be over entire nations. All of them are still limited in the amount of authority and power that they possess. Those at their right hand can only have the same amount of authority, yet people push and fight for those positions on a regular basis.
God is the ultimate authority in all the universe, since it was He who made everything and sustains everything. When Jesus died on the cross and then arose from the dead, He sat down at the right hand of God in that same authority and power.
Believers are now also seated along with Jesus. They are given that same authority and power that Jesus had.
While on this earth, it appears as if the world is winning the battle against believers. However, God is in the process of making all the enemies of believers their footstool in Christ Jesus. Satan, sin and all who follow him will be placed under the feet of Jesus and those with Him. This gives the believer courage to keep moving forward in Christ Jesus.
You may or may not be in a physical position of much authority. As a believer you are seated with Christ at the right hand of God the Father. You can rest in His authority and protection against the enemies of your soul. He won the battle over death by raising from the dead and will win the battle for your soul if you keep your trust in Him. God will give you victory over your enemies and make them your footstool when you step into heaven some day.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know Jesus is at the right hand of the Father; that you will know that you are seated with Jesus at the right hand of the Father; and that you will trust and walk in God’s authority and power.
