Proverbs 2:11 Protection And Understanding

Narrow path mountain

Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you. Proverbs 2:11

As a person goes through life, he will have many choices to make. Some of these choices will be large ones, while many will be smaller choices. Some will be easy to make, while others will be very difficult to decide which way to go.

In the process of making a choice there will be times when the person can just somehow ‘know’ which one is the better choice or which one he should not choose. There will be an inner feeling of what is the wrong choice.

However, many people will refuse to follow that feeling and make the wrong choice. They will throw out all discretion in favor of pleasure at the moment. This then will lead to trouble and danger.

Solomon states that discretion and understanding is what helps a person. They protect and guide a person.

While the world will call that inner feeling a person’s conscience, in reality it is God’s Holy Spirit. It is God who is trying to direct and guide a person on the correct path in this life.

Looking at the paths that are in life, they show many different things. A path may look nice and clean and easy to walk, but is right on the edge of a dangerous cliff and a spot where many rocks come tumbling down the hillside unexpectedly. Falling off the edge or being hit is a very high probability.

Discretion will see the dangers and keep one from going down that path. Understanding will know that it is better to walk another path to stay safe from harm.

These cliffs and rocks are temptations and sin in this world. While a person is free to do what he wants, being led by the Holy Spirit will bring discretion and understanding to do what is best. Just like every other person you are on a path in this life. You will have choices to make that can help or endanger you. Allow God’s Holy Spirit to give you discretion and understanding as to what is before you on the path in this life.

Be willing to be led by God to make the correct choices. Do not allow yourself to be selfish and in the moment only to where you make foolish choices that put you in danger.

God loves you and will only guide you in the path that is best for your life. Trust Him.

I pray today that you will know God’s love for you; that you will hear God’s Holy Spirit guiding you; that you will trust God’s leading in your life; and that God will fill you with discretion and understanding as you walk with Him.

Psalm 121:7 Safe From All Harm

The Lord will keep up from all harm–he will watch over your life; Psalm 121:7

One desire that every person has is to be safe from all harm. No one likes to be physically harmed in any way. Most will seek to find ways to be safe in whatever they do.

Organizations and governments have set up many different safety regulations to keep people safe from harm. Despite all of the safety regulations, people still get injured in various ways. Many times it is due to lack of following the rules or someone else not following the regulations.

When injury occurs, people strive to find someone to blame for the injury. They often feel the those in authority did not do enough to keep them safe. God is the most common one to be blamed for allowing the injury to occur.

The psalmist writes that God will keep a person from all harm because He is watching over the life of the believer.

Many people have chosen to follow God and believed that no harm would ever come to them. They felt as though God would protect them in every situation. Then, suddenly they get sick or get injured. Now they get angry with God because He did not protect them from harm.

While physical harm is painful, it is only temporary. The worst that physical harm can do to a person is bring about physical death. However, it cannot bring about spiritual death or separation from God.

God is watching over every believer to protect him from spiritual harm. Harm that will destroy his belief in Jesus. Harm that will cause him to turn away from God.

All physical harm will be used by God for the benefit of the believer. He knows that it is only temporary and works for an eternal good. God will protect the soul of the believer.

You can trust that God is watching over your life. He knows what is best for your life. If you allow Him to, He will put a hedge of protection around your soul to protect you from any harm.

This protection may or may not include physical protection, but it protects what is most important–your soul. The body you have is only for temporary use while on this earth. Your soul will last for eternity. After death you will receive a new eternal body.

Do not worry about the physical harm you may receive, but trust God’s protection of your soul. He is watching over you.

I pray today that you will know the salvation Jesus provides; that you will trust God’s work in your life; that God will remove fear of physical harm; and that you will know the protection God offers your soul.

Psalm 91:9-10 No Harm Or Disaster

Remote camping

If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. Psalm 91:9-10

Every person has a dream to be able to live with never having to fear harm or disaster. There are daily fears of harm for many people. They live in areas that people are under war and there is a daily threat of death. Others see and expect disaster on a regular basis.

Houses are covered with alarm systems to warn of any possible danger. People stock up on food and clothing to be covered in times of disaster. Fear runs high among people that they will not be able to survive a possible disaster that is coming.

The author of this psalm states that all one has to do is make God his refuge and he will never experience harm or disaster.

It does not take much for most people to look at these verses and question it. There are many people who have trusted in God and yet went through major problems or disasters in their life.

The challenge is in what is meant by disaster or harm. For most people if anything goes wrong in any way, it is disaster or harm.

While things happening like this may be painful, they are not real disasters or real harms. It is all a matter of perspective.

As a believer, one is under the protection of God. Under God’s protection nothing can happen that is not without purpose. God allows things to strengthen or change a believer, always with the purpose of building him up and bringing him closer to the image of Jesus.

With this in mind, nothing is really a disaster or harmful. Everything is a construction tool to build the believer up.

Think about what you believe is real disaster or harmful to you. The only things that are truly a disaster or harmful are those things that draw you away from God.

If you have your focus on God and make Him your refuge, your dwelling place, you will remain with Him. While you are with God, you are under His protection and control. You are to become more of what He wants you to become and less of what the world wants you to be.

Now you can see that what Satan has meant for harm, God uses for your good. No longer will harm or disaster overtake you.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will dwell with God always; that you will trust His guidance in your life; and that God will show how He uses everything for your good.

Psalm 73:28 Where Are You?

Alp hut refuge.jpg

But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds. Psalm 73:28

Searching for a home to live in can be difficult for many people, especially when moving into a new area. One does not know the new city and what different areas of the city is like. Some of the areas are high-end with great security, but high cost. Others are low-cost, but with a lot of crime.

Finding the right place is challenging and scary. One does not want to make the wrong choice.

Along with finding the place to live, people are also searching for their place and purpose in this world. Many go through life constantly struggling to find where they should be and why they should be there. Most of what people are looking at are temporary fixes.

Asaph states that for himself it is good to be near God. He had chosen to make God his refuge, his place of dwelling.

God is the one who has created everything and is in control of everything. He is the one who gives meaning and purpose to everything and everyone. He is the one who gives true life to every person.

Those who believe in God, need to allow themselves to dwell near Him. In order to be near God one has to turn away from sin and turn towards Him. God will not turn anyone away who comes to Him, but one must come to Him.

This is a conscience choice upon the individual as to where he will dwell.

Often a person chooses to walk away from God and step into sin. This is stepping out from God’s protection and refuge.

Being near God gives one His protection and favor. It gives one a life that is full of purpose and full of life.

As you draw near to God, He will draw near to you. He will never turn you away. Find out why it is good to be near God by making Him your refuge.

God is on your side when you are on and by His side. Stay near to Him by staying in His word and talking to Him daily. Do not turn away to the temporary things of this world, but live with eternity in the front of your mind and actions.

Where you are today?

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will stay close to God; that God will strengthen you to turn from all sin; that you will find refuge in God alone; and that you will know the full life God has for you.

Psalm 59:17 What To Rely Upon

Alnwick castle

You are my strength, I sing praise to you; you, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely. Psalm 59:17

Relying on someone or something is something that every person does all the time. People rely upon their boss to give them their paycheck in a timely matter; they rely on others to stay on their own side of the road when driving; they rely on their vehicle to work; they rely upon the electricity company to provide the needed electricity; and the list goes on forever. Many will also rely only upon their selves.

With all of these things or people that people rely on there is one problem, they can let a person down. Equipment fails, people do not always do what they are supposed to do, or greater problems occur, preventing something from happening.

David had quickly learned that some of those people, whom he should have been able to rely upon had turned their backs on him and sought to kill him. However, he knew he could rely upon God. God would be his fortress and strength.

God is always there for every believer. He is a fortress that has walls thick enough and high enough that no enemy can break through. The only things that God allows through the walls of that fortress is what is best for the believer. Everything else is blocked.

This can give amazing strength to the believer. He now has the ability to overcome every attack of the enemy, when God is His fortress. Standing behind the walls of God’s fortress provides a protection that no one or any thing on this earth can provide.

God is faithful and will not fail in His protecting you. His fortress will stand the tests of time and the attacks of the enemy.

As a believer step into God’s fortress. Be filled with His Holy Spirit and know that you have His protection upon you at all times, in every situation. There is no enemy strong enough to get to you without God’s permission.

Do not turn to things and people of this world, because they can and will fail when needed. God will never fail you. You can rely upon Him to do what He said He would do each and every time.

As you see His strength and power in your life, sing praises to Him. Give Him praise for protecting you and being your strong tower of protection.

I pray today that you will know the power of God; that you will know the protection God has for you; that you will know you can rely upon God; that you will know God’s faithfulness; and that you will sing praises to God each day.
