They would spend the night stationed around the house of God, because they had to guard it; and they had charge of the key for opening it each morning. 1 Chronicles 9:27

It is very common for many places to have some guards to protect the place during the night and often during the day. The protection is to keep anyone from breaking in and causing destruction and stealing items. Those who stand guard must remain awake and alert to what is going on around them and what they are guarding.

A group of Levites was put in charge of spending the night stationed around the house of God to guard it and to open it each morning.

Only a very small portion of people hold a position as a security guard. Those that do guard work are often working for larger businesses or corporations. The most common place to see guards are at places holding things of very high value or where great destruction can occur easily.

One place that many people do not look to guard is their own heart and life. Every person who has become a believer has also become the temple of God. Their heart and life is where God now dwells, and it must be guarded.

The world is out to destroy the heart and soul of every person and especially those who have chosen to follow Jesus. Temptation to sin against God will be thrown at every believer to destroy him.

Believers must be on guard against the attacks of the enemy, this world, against their souls. Knowing God’s word, being filled with the Holy Spirit and putting on the full armor of God will allow the believer to be on guard, ready and alert to protect his life and the lives of those around him.

As a believer the world is out to destroy you, to cause you to slip up and sin against God. You must always be on guard against the schemes of the world to cause you to fall into temptation and sin against God.

Do not allow the ways of this world to deceive you into sinning against God. Allow God to guide you by His Holy Spirit to protect you against the attacks of the enemy. Guard your heart from being destroyed. Open your heart only to God’s ways of living.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will allow God to guard your heart and soul; that you will allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in being alert to the attacks of the enemy of your soul; and that you will only open your heart to God and His ways.
