Revelation 16:15 Awake And Clothed

“Look, I come like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake and remains clothed, so as not to go naked and be shamefully exposed.” Revelation 16:15

A thief does not give warning that he is about to enter a place and steal something. He does it quietly, so as to not get caught. It is to surprise anyone is not awake or alert watching.

No one can stand at their home twenty-four hours a day watching for a thief to enter. So it is very common for people to have cameras and alarms set up on their homes to warn of any possible thief trying to enter.

Jesus states that He will come like a thief. One who is awake and dressed for His return will be blessed.

Unlike a thief, Jesus has stated that He is coming. Like a thief, one does not know when Jesus will return.

The believer needs to remain dressed and alert, watching for His return. Being dressed is being clothed with the righteousness of Jesus, His holiness and purity from all sin.

It is sadly common for many believers to get undressed and walk around in sin. Some think it is acceptable to live in sinful lifestyles, while others think that God does not see it or will forgive them in the end. Both are false lies of this world. Along with being properly dressed, one must also be awake.

To be awake is to be alert to the deception of the enemy and temptations to sin. It is recognizing sin and fleeing from it. It is also being aware of the times and how soon Jesus may return. He recognizes that God sees everything and lives His life in a way that will honor God.

The true believer in Jesus will be ready for His return.

Just as you get up each day and get dressed with physical clothing, put on the righteousness of Jesus each morning. Live your life as Jesus lived His, fleeing all sin and pursuing the things of God.

Remain spiritually awake and alert as to what is going on around you and what God is doing. The world is trying to cause you to trip up and sin against God. Live the holy life God has called you to live.

Ask yourself if you are ready for Jesus to return for you and take you to heaven for eternity. Or will you be exposed?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will be clothed in the righteousness of Jesus; that you will choose to be spiritually awake; that you will not be exposed before God as sinful and asleep; and that you will be ready for the return of Jesus.

1 Peter 5:8 Be Alert For Attacks

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8

Very few people are always on alert, expecting danger to occur at any moment. Unless they are in a very dangerous area or outside of the normal area of living, most people feel safe.

Although things can appear to be safe, danger can come very suddenly and from unexpected locations, if one is not aware of what is going on around them. A person must always be on alert when he is driving down the road, to be ready for anything that could possibly go wrong.

As Peter is closing his letter, he gives a warning to the believers to be alert and sober, because the devil is going around like a lion seeking to destroy someone.

During times, when everything is going good, it is easy for a believer to get lulled into a sleep thinking that everything is good and nothing bad will occur. Just as a driver going down a long, straight road for hours will get drowsy, believers will often get drowsy and not pay attention to his surroundings.

Many people think of the devil in a red suit that looks ugly. In reality, the devil comes disguised in many things to devour a believer. He comes as a ‘good’ friend, a co-worker, a little child, a magazine, a picture, the internet and many other ways. He comes both inside and outside the church as little temptations to sin against God.

The devil is doing whatever it takes to destroy the believer.

The easiest way to stop the devil is to be aware and resist him. The only way to do this is to be aware and of a sober mind, not caught up in the temporary things of this world.

Satan is out to destroy you. Keep your eyes focused on God and allow His Holy Spirit to keep you aware of what the tactics of the devil are.

God can reveal when the devil is making an attack against you and will show you a way of escape. Instead of walking into temptation and being devoured, resist the devil and flee. Do not give the devil a chance to win the battle.

Put your trust in God, stay alert being led by the Holy Spirit and He will protect you.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that God will open your eyes to the tactics of the devil; that you will be aware of the deception of the enemy; that you will be led by the Holy Spirit; that God will protect you during times of attack; and that your mind will be focused upon God and His eternal things.

1 Corinthians 16:13 On Guard And Strong In Faith

Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. 1 Corinthians 16:13

Security guards have a job that must be done to protect someone or a given place or thing. As they are doing their job, they must be alert at all times as to what is going on around them. They must also be filled with courage and strength to face possible dangers.

Depending upon what a guard is guarding, will depend upon on how dangerous his position is. The higher and greater the value, the greater the chance is of someone trying to steal or destroy it.

As Paul finishes out this first letter to the Corinthian church, he tells them to be on their guard with a firm, strong faith that is full of courage.

While the world has many things that have great value that must be guarded, the believer has something that has greater value than anything the world can offer. The believer has forgiveness of sins and eternal life.

There is no price tag that can be put on how valuable life is. Most people are willing to stand strong to guard their life. Very few are willing to die. The world strives to hold on to what they call life, but which is in reality, death.

Every believer has been forgiven of his sins and give eternal life. Yet, many believers do not guard the life that has been given them. They are willing to play with sin and live in fear. The enemy of their souls is allowed to intimidate them. They have very little courage to stand strong upon God’s word and promises.

Every believer must be aware that the enemy is out to destroy him. He must stand firm on what Jesus has done and be very bold and courageous. In the end he will win, if he holds on to his faith and is bold.

The enemy of your soul is out to get you. The world does not want you, as a believer, to win. Fill your mind with God’s word and believe it. Know that you know God’s word is true for you.

As you know God’s word for your life, keep alert, watching out for the attacks of the enemy upon your mind and life. Be willing to stand strong for God, pushing the attacks of the enemy away.

God is with you and will protect you as you trust in Him and stand strong for Him.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that God will help you be alert to the tactics of the enemy; that you will have the courage God provides; that you will walk in the strength of God; and that you will not give in to the attacks of the enemy.
