Nehemiah 9:5 Bless The Lord Your God Forever

And the Levites, Jeshua, Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabniah, Sherebiah, Hodijah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah, said: “Stand up and bless the Lord your God forever and ever! Blessed be your glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise!” Nehemiah 9:5

People are quick to sing praises of other people when something great has been done by them. Others will shower blessings on others who have blessed them or done something specifically for them. Most often blessings are given only if something was received first. Then it is only done for a short time and very quickly forgotten as people move on to new things and new people.

A named number of Levites tell all the people to stand up and bless the Lord their God forever and ever.

The world is very quick to stand up and sing their own praises. Pride rises up and people want everyone else to know what they have done. People want to be recognized and will only recognize others when it will benefit themselves. The world will also be quick to take a stand for what they believe in and demand that others follow along.

Believers need to stop and recognize who God is what He has already done in their lives. Just a few of the things God has done are forgiveness of sins, given great mercy, shown love, provided for needs, continual presence, provided strength and direction and much more. The moment they realize these things, they will want to stand up and bless Him.

Instead of sitting down and hiding in the shadows ashamed or fearful, believers are to stand up and be seen. They are to let the world know the blessing that they are pouring out upon the Lord their God. This is not to be just done on Sundays in a church service, but continually day and night forever and ever.

Think about all that God has done for you that He did not have to do because you did not deserve any of it. The list is endless and continually growing every moment.

Now stand up and pour out blessings upon the Lord your God out loud for all the world to hear and know. God is to be exalted above all else in your life. When you are blessing Him forever and ever, you will have no time to turn to the things of this world.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know what God has done for you; that you will stand up boldly for God; that you will bless the Lord your God all the time; and that the world will know you bless and serve God alone.

Ezra 6:16 A Time To Celebration

Then the people of Israel–the priests, the Levites and the rest of the exiles–celebrated the dedication of the house of God with joy. Ezra 6:16

People all over the world love to celebrate special events. It is very common for there to be some type of celebration when a building project is completed. This can be with just a simple house all the way up to some large commercial structure. There is a high level of excitement due to the hard work and difficulties often needed to be overcome to bring the construction to a completion.

Once the temple was rebuilt all the Israelites and exiles celebrated the dedication of the rebuilt house of God with great joy.

The level of celebration of the completion of a building will vary depending on the value and importance of the building. The higher the value and importance, the greater the celebration will be. Some buildings will bring about a national level of celebration. However, the celebration is always for something that is temporary. No physical building will last forever.

Believers are to always be in the process of building a temple that will last for eternity. That temple is making new disciples–new believers and followers of Jesus.

Every time a person chooses to turn away from his old sinful past, repent and believe in the saving work of Jesus upon the cross, there is a new temple built for God. The new believer becomes a dwelling place for God that is dedicated to Him. This occurs due to the hard work of prayer and being a witness to someone by other believers.

As soon as one becomes a believer, all heaven rejoices. It is a time for great celebration for all believers with the dedication of a new temple for God.

You most likely have times or events that you like to celebrate, some on a regular basis, some on a one time only basis. One time to always remember and celebrate is when you became a believer, when God gave you a new life and began to dwell in you.

Other times that are equally important is when you hear of another person choosing to believe in Jesus and be saved. Think of the great joy there is in knowing someone will no longer be condemned and heading to hell but is now a fellow brother/sister in the family of God–a new temple of God.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will make disciples for Jesus; that you will celebrate when one becomes a follower of Jesus; that you be a temple for God to dwell in; and that you will know the joy of the salvation God has given you.

2 Chronicles 34:12a Work Faithfully

The workers labored faithfully. Over them to direct them were Jahath and Obadiah, Levites descended from Merari, and Zechariah and Meshullam, descended from Kohath. 2 Chronicles 34:12

Work is something that nearly everyone has to do. While most people work for a paycheck, everyone does work. Some work without a paycheck taking care of their home or just finding food and shelter for themselves and possibly other family members. Some people work physically demanding jobs, while others work jobs that are mentally or emotionally demanding.

Regardless of what the job is or how easy or difficult it is, all jobs require doing it well.

Josiah had appointed the Levites to get the temple rebuilt. The workers worked faithfully under the leadership of various Levites.

In every workplace there are many different types of workers with many different types of jobs to be done. Some workers need to be pushed to get the job done, while others take the initiative to get it done on their own. Some need to be checked in on a regular basis to verify that they are doing the job correctly, while others don’t need to be watched as closely knowing that the job will be done. All of these types of workers can be found in the secular workplace as well as in the church.

Those who need to be watched closely are workers who are not working faithfully. No one should have to look over the shoulder of a believer to ensure the work is being done correctly. Everything that they do should be done as unto the Lord, faithfully with the best of their abilities.

In the end God is looking for servants who have done the work given them faithfully so that He can tell them that they did well.

Every day you have a job to do whether it is a paid or volunteer job. You have a choice as to how well you do that job.

Do not allow yourself to skip corners and cheat the system doing only a bare minimum or less than satisfactory job. Put your best effort into everything that you do. God has only given you His best efforts and nothing less, do the same for Him and others. Be faithful in your work, whether it is a little work or a lot of work. The world is watching, and God is watching.

Are you a faithful worker?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the work God has for you to do; that you will do all work as unto God; that you will be found faithful by God in everything given to you to do; and that the world will see Jesus in your work.

2 Chronicles 29:5 A Cleaning Out Needed

and said: “Listen to me, Levites! Consecrate yourselves now and consecrate the temple of the Lord, the God of your ancestors. Remove all defilement from the sanctuary.” 2 Chronicles 29:5

On a fairly regular basis, at least once a year, most people go through a cleaning up of their place. Springtime is the common time to go through a house and clean everything up. It is a process of removing what is no longer needed and cleaning out the dirt and filth built up over time. It can be a time of restoring things back to good.

When Hezekiah became king, he called on the Levites to go into the temple can clean out all the garbage and consecrate the temple back to God.

For most people, it is easy to see the physical dirt and clutter in a house that needs to be cleaned. While most people see it, many do not take the time to clean it up. Being lazy or content with living in filth, people leave the dirt and clutter and learn to live around it.

In the same way many believers have allowed dirt and filth to build up in their lives. Sinful practices have been allowed to infiltrate their lives, corrupting and defiling the temple of God. They have pushed God out and allowed the world in.

Instead of ignoring the filth in their lives, believers need to take time to repent and flee those sinful practices in the hearts and minds. They need to allow the Holy Spirit to come into their lives and change them, cleansing them to be a holy and purified temple unto God. This is a cleansing that is needed on a regular basis.

Believers are now the temple of God and must be holy as God is holy, separate from the world and its ways, and consecrated unto God.

As a believer you are now the temple of God and are the Levitical priest of that temple. Your temple needs to be holy unto God. Examine your life and do a cleaning that will remove anything that is sinful and against God and His commands. Repent of any sins removing those sins from your life and be transformed by the renewing of your mind and heart into a new creation–the temple of God.

Just as you clean your house on regular basis, clean God’s temple daily.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will allow the Holy Spirit to change your life; that you will dedicated to God; that your life will be a holy temple for God to dwell in; that you will allow the Holy Spirit to cleanse your life of any sin; and you will be holy as God is holy.

1 Chronicles 23:30 Thank And Praise The Lord Continually

They were also to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord. They were to do the same in the evening 1 Chronicles 23:30

It is common for most people to have some daily routines that they go through. For many, it will be routines that are done or required at their workplace. Others like the routine in their home each day.

Having a routine can ensure that certain things will get done in a timely manner. It can also help a person to remember to do what needs to be done each day.

Part of the Levites responsibilities as priests was to stand every morning and evening to thank and praise the Lord.

Being driven by routines can help keep a person focused correctly. The world is constantly throwing things at people to see and do. Distractions occur on a regular basis attempting to pull people away from what is really important.

In the life of a believer, God should always be his first focus. Taking time to recognize God and what He is doing is of the highest priority for the believer.

Stopping for a moment at the beginning of the day to thank and praise the Lord for giving one another day causes one to start with the right focus upon God and what He is doing. It will give one strength and courage for the challenges of the day.

Later, one must stop and take time to thank and praise the Lord for what He had done during that day. It can bring the needed peace for a night of rest regardless of what went right or wrong throughout that day.

Believers can recognize how great God is them and how many blessings they have been given when stopping to thank and praise God twice or more each day.

You most likely have some routines in your life that you like to or must follow on a regular basis. Make sure that part of those routines is taking time to stop and thank God for what He has done, what He is doing and what He will do.

Open your eyes to the work the Lord is doing in your life. You cannot count all the blessings that God has given you each day and night. Do not take those blessings for granted but thank and praise God each morning and evening and throughout the day.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will see what God has done in your life; that you will continually thank God for what He is doing; that you will give God praise day and night; and that you will be grateful for all the blessings and strength God has given you.
