As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, nor the sand of the sea measured, so will I multiply the descendants of David My servant and the Levites who minister to Me. Jeremiah 33:22
Following someone’s ancestry can sometimes be very interesting. Some people are linked to very famous people in the past. Others may have an ancestry that is very rich in culture, families who led others on great missions or exploits. Most, however, do not have anything very exciting in their ancestry, it is just a list of many unknown people in their lineage.
Jeremiah records God saying that just as the stars in heaven cannot be numbered, nor the sand of the sea measured, in the same way He will multiply the descendants of David and the Levites.
In the eyes of the world many see that ancestry connected to someone famous is of great value. This becomes even more true if the famous person is still alive. People will often use this information as leverage to get what they desire. Very few can claim this.
If possible, to see all the records in history, every person would be able to trace their ancestry back to Noah and then to Adam. In this there is a connection to the Jewish people, though often indirectly. Very few would be able to directly, by blood, trace their ancestry to David.
Even though one cannot trace ancestry to David by blood, every person can become an ancestor of David by adoption. It was through the line of David that Jesus came to be born.
Every person who chooses to believe in Jesus and follow Him becomes a child of God and a descendant of David and the Levites who minister before God. This is a number of descendants so great that it cannot be numbered.
You may have someone famous in your ancestry or you may not. Although it may be a great feeling to be connected to someone famous, it is not the greatest thing to be desired. Choosing to follow Jesus makes you a descendant of God Himself and the line of David. It will give you the opportunity to minister to God in many different ways throughout your life.
Do not reject being a part of the line of David that God had prophesied about through Jeremiah. Be a believer and His descendant for all eternity.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know that you are numbered as a child of God; that you will minister to God with all of your life; and that you will be a witness of Jesus to the world.
