See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. Isaiah 43:19
One thing that occurs with life on this earth is change. Every day nearly everything has some change in it. People, plants and animals grow. Material things wear down.
On the first day of January, every year, people celebrate the new year that is coming in. Going into the new year many people will often choose to make some changes in their lives.
Isaiah quotes God talking about His doing a new thing and asking if the people do not perceive it. It is a new way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
While most people do not always like change it is still needed. A baby child must change in order to grow. A worker must change in order to be promoted. Water must move and be changed in order to be fresh.
God is always working something new in the life of a believer. He is focused on forming the believer into the image of Jesus. No matter how much change has occurred in the life of a believer, there is still more that can be changed.
Just as many in the world make New Year’s resolutions at the beginning of the new year, many believers do the same. The focus of the believer should be the same as that of God’s, to be more like Jesus. God is going to do something new in the believer to bring that about in this new year.
What that ‘new’ is, is only known by God Himself. It may be new blessings, or new trial and troubles. It may be opening or closing doors. Either way it is a path to building the individual into the image of Jesus and to build His kingdom.
As you begin this new year open your eyes and ears as to what God is doing in your life. God wants to do something new in your life, bringing you to a new level of relationship with Him.
God will not keep hidden what He is doing if you are willing to listen and follow Him. Trust that God knows what is best for your life and walk the path of life that He has made for you, filled with streams of living water through the wasteland of this world.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will see what God is doing in your life; that you will walk the path God has for you; that you will know the streams of life God has given you; and that you will be more like Jesus in this new year.
