1 Peter 1:14 Don’t Go Back

As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 1 Peter 1:14

As a person grows older, he will learn more and more on what to do and what not to do. He will learn things that work and things that will fail.

Some people will learn from experience and change, while others refuse to change, or they change for a short time, but then go back to their old ways. Instead of maturing, they continue to live in ignorance. Often this is done to receive immediate pleasure over long term growth.

Peter reminds the people of the salvation they have. Now he encourages them to not go back to their old evil desires they had when they were ignorant of God’s ways.

Just as children learn as they grow in what is good to do and what is not good to do, believers also need to learn. During the time a person does not know Jesus, he is living his life in ignorance. He does not know how he should live, and so he focuses upon immediate pleasures, which are often sinful.

Once a person begins to follow Jesus, he is to begin learning how to live for God, rather than selfish, temporary and sinful pleasures. Inside the church there are many that have not chosen to be obedient to God. Instead of changing and becoming more like Jesus, they go back to their old sinful desires. Some just dabble a little with sinful desires, while others go in full force.

They allow the ways of the world to conform them, rather than allow Jesus to transform them.

Every believer is to leave his old life of sin and evil desires to follow after God. He is to be obedient unto God’s word and ways.

If you have chosen to follow Jesus, you have chosen a new path for your life. God has a path of holiness and righteousness for you to walk.

The world will continually throw temptations your way to try and get you to go back to your old evil desires of sinful acts. Turn towards God and lean on His Holy Spirit for strength to resist the urge to go back.

Live the real and full life God has for you, rather than go back to the ways of death and sin. Be an obedient child of God.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will be obedient to God’s word; that you will be led by His Holy Spirit in living your life; and that you will be transformed to be more like Jesus.
