for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 3:23
The majority of people, all over the world, feel that overall they are a good person. Most often this is because they have not done anything extremely bad against the law or others.
People can come up with a list of things that they have done well and a longer list of things that they have never done making them look good. No one wants to be known as having failed or is failing in any area of their life. They only want the good to be seen and recognized.
Paul points out that there is no difference between the Jew and the gentile, because every one has sinned and has fallen short of the glory of God.
Since God had created the earth, everything in it and every one on it, He can make the rules as to what people can and cannot do. Along with making those rules, He can also set what the consequences are for breaking those rules.
The breaking of the rules is what the bible calls–sin. Every person on this earth has sinned at least once against God, regardless of how good one is. Very few people could ever say that they have never told a lie, or never cursed someone, or coveted something someone else had. These are just a few of the most common sins.
At the moment of committing a sin, one has fallen away from the glory of God and has a death sentence upon his head as a consequence for that sin. It has nothing to do with how good a person is or what he good he has done, he sinned.
In His great love and mercy, God sent Jesus to die on the cross for each and every person who has sinned. All a person needs to do is repent of those sins and believe in Jesus for forgiveness and eternal life.
Just as everyone else has sinned you have sinned against God in your life. Because of those sins, you have a death sentence. If you have not already done so, take a moment right now to repent of those sins. That means be sorry for them and turn away from them.
Accept the forgiveness and life that Jesus offers. He is willing and able to forgive you, when you repent.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will repent of all sins before God; that you will turn away from all sins towards God; and that you will believe in Jesus for forgiveness and salvation.
