Luke 21:34 Be Careful About Being Weighed Down

Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. Luke 21:34

For most people life is very busy. The majority are struggling with working to provide what they need, or think they need, day by day. Others are busy ignoring provision of actual needs to be able just party and have fun.

Both groups of people are focused on something in this life, either provision of needs or provision of fun. Often they are not looking to the far future.

Right after telling the people about what will happen in the end times, Jesus gives them a warning. He tells them to be careful to not be caught up in partying or the anxieties of life. Both are a trap.

There is nothing wrong with having some fun. However, some want to have fun all the time. Some believe that getting drunk is the best way to have fun, helping them to forget their problems and needs.

In the process of having fun, it is easy for a person to forget the time and all responsibilities. Instead of moving slow, time slips away very quickly when a person is having fun.

The same goes for those who are anxious about provision, both for now and in their future. Some will focus on work so much that they miss the here and now. Inside the church, this very problem also exists.

Many get caught up in the temporary things of this life and lose focus on God. They begin to forget to keep an eye looking forward towards the return of Jesus.

In doing this, many will be caught unaware of the return of Jesus and miss His return. They are not doing what God has called them to do.

As with most people, you probably have a very busy life. There are lots of things to do, plus you want time to relax and have fun.

In the process of getting all the things done and relaxing, do not allow yourself to forget about serving God. In reality God should be first on your list of to do things, then all the rest. As you put God first, He will take care of the rest. Then when Jesus returns you will be ready and see Him.

Do not allow yourself to be trapped with the temporary things of this world.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will focus your life on serving God first; that you will put what God desires first in your life; that you will cast all anxieties upon God; and that God will strengthen you to turn away from worthless things of this life.
