2 Peter 3:13 What Are You Looking Forward To?

But in keeping with his promise we are looking foward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells. 2 Peter 3:13

Looking forward to something that is to come is very common among people around the world. Some things that are looked forward to are very soon, within only a few days. Other things are further out. People look forward to days off, vacations, holidays, births, weddings, and more.

As some are looking forward to some good things to occur, many are fearing the future. All they can see is doom and gloom, death and destruction with no hope.

Describing the time of the return of Jesus, Peter tells the people that they look forward to a new heaven and new earth where there is righteousness. This is what was promised.

Watching the news will give a person a depressing vision of what is possibly coming in the future of this world. Crime keeps rising, global warming is destroying the earth, viruses are killing everyone, water shortage, wars, and much more. Seeing all this does not give anyone a sense of any hope at all, but despair.

Believers can often get caught up in this same type of thinking. All they can see is the rise of sin and promotion of sin, or the persecution of believers. Sometimes there appears to be no hope.

However, the believer must remember the words and promises of God. Jesus said He would return to take all His people home with Him for eternity. God has promised that there would be no more sorrow, sickness, or death in heaven.

Holding on to these words and promises of God, will give a believer new hope and strength to keep going forward. Yes, things are bad and getting worse, but there is hope in the end.

You may have some things you are looking forward to and some things that you are dreading that are coming. Do not allow yourself to dwell on the negative things that are coming but focus upon the promise of Jesus to return some day.

Look forward to life in heaven with God for eternity with no pain, suffering, sorrow, hunger, death, or sin. God has not failed in any of His promises to you so far, and He will not fail in any promises yet to be fulfilled to you.

You have a hope of eternal and perfect life.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the promises of God; that you will know the hope you have in Jesus; that you will stay strong for God until Jesus returns; and that God will give you visions of hope.

Romans 13:12 The Night Is Almost Over

The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Romans 13:12

Without a vision or hope for the future, people only see today. They struggle with seeing that there is a new day coming, in which things will be different.

With not being able to see tomorrow, many want to live life up today. They want to eat, drink and be merry today, because there is no tomorrow. Enjoying life in the moment with no cares for the next day is the common thought for many.

Paul says that the night is nearly over and day is coming. With that in mind, people are to put off the things of darkness and put on the clothing of light.

As believers look around them, often all they see is extreme darkness and sin. Communities around them are promoting sin and sinful activities more and more. The world appears to be black as ever, with no hope of the light of a new day.

Going through a physical night, it is always the darkest right before the sun arises on the horizon. During this time of darkness, day may feel like it will never come, but it will and does.

Although the world appears to be as dark as ever, believers have the hope of a new day, a new life coming. It is only a short matter of time before Jesus returns and a new day has begun.

Knowing this, believers are to put off the sinful deeds of darkness and sin. As the world steps deeper into sin, the believer should be leaving behind the life of sin. He is to put on God’s armor of light and live a holy and righteous life before God and man. This keeps him ready for the new day that is coming.

God has called you out of a life of darkness of sin and death into His life of light and righteousness. Though you live in a dark and sinful world, you are to be separate with the hope that is in you.

Do not give up living a righteous life before God, because the new day is coming when sin and suffering will be done away with. Hold on to the hope that God has placed in you, knowing you will win with God in the end.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know the hope you have in Jesus; that you will see the day of Jesus’ return coming; that you will turn to God away from sin; and that you will put on God’s armor of light.

Luke 21:34 Be Careful About Being Weighed Down

Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. Luke 21:34

For most people life is very busy. The majority are struggling with working to provide what they need, or think they need, day by day. Others are busy ignoring provision of actual needs to be able just party and have fun.

Both groups of people are focused on something in this life, either provision of needs or provision of fun. Often they are not looking to the far future.

Right after telling the people about what will happen in the end times, Jesus gives them a warning. He tells them to be careful to not be caught up in partying or the anxieties of life. Both are a trap.

There is nothing wrong with having some fun. However, some want to have fun all the time. Some believe that getting drunk is the best way to have fun, helping them to forget their problems and needs.

In the process of having fun, it is easy for a person to forget the time and all responsibilities. Instead of moving slow, time slips away very quickly when a person is having fun.

The same goes for those who are anxious about provision, both for now and in their future. Some will focus on work so much that they miss the here and now. Inside the church, this very problem also exists.

Many get caught up in the temporary things of this life and lose focus on God. They begin to forget to keep an eye looking forward towards the return of Jesus.

In doing this, many will be caught unaware of the return of Jesus and miss His return. They are not doing what God has called them to do.

As with most people, you probably have a very busy life. There are lots of things to do, plus you want time to relax and have fun.

In the process of getting all the things done and relaxing, do not allow yourself to forget about serving God. In reality God should be first on your list of to do things, then all the rest. As you put God first, He will take care of the rest. Then when Jesus returns you will be ready and see Him.

Do not allow yourself to be trapped with the temporary things of this world.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will focus your life on serving God first; that you will put what God desires first in your life; that you will cast all anxieties upon God; and that God will strengthen you to turn away from worthless things of this life.

Ezekiel 39:8 It Will Happen

Almost midnight clock

It is coming! It will surely take place, declares the Sovereign Lord. This is the day I have spoken of. Ezekiel 39:8

When something big to occur is in the works, people will talk about it coming and promote it. Months before a big movie is to be released, there are trailers being released to pump it up. Days are counted down to its release. Millions of people get excited about it happening, because they know it will happen. There is a high level of expectation.

It is common to see things being promoted that will happen in the future. Some things are a year away, while others things are within months. Either way excitement is drum up to get everyone ready to be a part of the new event.

God was preparing to bring judgement upon the nations. Although it had not yet occurred, God was telling the people it is coming, pumping them up to be ready for it.

There are yet prophecies of what God has promised in the Bible that are yet to come. Yet, they are coming.

At some day in the future Jesus will come again as He had promised. At that coming, there will be judgement upon all people for what they did or did not do. That day will be unlike any other day in all of history, because it will effect and change the entire world with everyone in it.

Knowing this, believers need to be telling and warning people of what is to come. They need to know that they can escape the harsh judgement of God against them by repenting and believing in Jesus.

For the believer, the return of Jesus will be the greatest thing that could ever possibly happen. For the unbeliever it will be the greatest horror that could happen.

It is coming! It will surely take place as God has promised.

You know that Jesus is returning as a believer. With that knowledge, first, live for God with all of your life. Second, let people know about what God is going to do. Give the world the warning of what God will do to those who do not obey and follow Him.

Do not allow doubt creep in and remove the excitement of the coming return of Jesus to leave you. Stay excited and looking forward to it. As you wait, let others know and build His kingdom. It will surely take place.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you look forward to the return of Jesus; that you will be a witness of Jesus to everyone you meet; and that you will live your whole life for God.
