Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? Luke 6:46
Obedience is something that most people want others to have, but not necessarily do themselves.
It is very common to see people in a workplace that do not do what the boss tells them to do. Sometimes they are just cutting a few corners, while other times it is blatant disregard for the directions and doing nothing at all.
In the home, it is often expected for children to obey their parents. The child that does not obey, is often punished.
After speaking for a while, Jesus asked the people a question. He asked why they call Him, ‘Lord’, but don’t do what He said to do.
Very few people like to have someone over them as complete master or ruler. People like to have their freedom to chose to do what they want to do.
Sadly this type of feeling is often found inside the church. Many believers claim to believe in Jesus and call Him, ‘Lord.’ Yet, they do not obey God’s commands. They continue to purposefully live in some type of sinful lifestyle, with no thought as to changing. They hear the words of God, but ignore them.
Jesus later says that the person who lives like that will have his life crumble and be destroyed. For a person to call Jesus, ‘Lord,’ is to make Jesus is complete, controlling, Master. Every believer is to be like a slave towards Jesus, obeying His every command, no matter how difficult or crazy it may seem. God is the boss.
One has to think about how much God loves him to send His only Son to die on a cross to save him, to realize how much God loves. When this is realized, obeying Him will be much easier, because one knows that every command is given out of perfect love.
As a believer, you claim that Jesus is ‘Lord’. You must be willing to ask yourself if He really is ‘Lord’ of your life. Ask yourself if you obey God’s every command, or do you ignore some that are not convenient.
Do not allow yourself to choose to not obey God’s every command towards you. Make Him, ‘Lord’, of your life. Allow God complete control over your every thought, action and word. This makes Him ‘Lord’ over your life and then you will truly believe in Him.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will make Jesus ‘Lord’ over your life; that you will obey every command of God; that you will trust God with all of your life; and that you will allow God to be Master of your life.
