1 Thessalonians 2:13 How Do You Receive God’s Word?

And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe. 1 Thessalonians 2:13

Every day people all over the world hear many different things. They hear things physically and by seeing or reading different sources.

Depending upon the source, a person will choose as to how much he accepts what he is hearing as truth or of importance. Some things are ignored, while great attention is given to other bits of information.

Paul thanked God for the people had heard and accepted God’s word as God’s word, not just some made-up human invention.

Hearing the word of God is easy to do in America and some other countries around the world. There is freedom to have a Bible or to talk about God’s word. But there is much more than just reading the Bible or hearing it mentioned.

There are many different secular universities that accept God’s word as a great piece of literature, but nothing more than that. Many people, including many in the church, have taken on that same viewpoint, that it is just a good piece of literature and not God’s word.

Every week people hear God’s word in churches, but never apply it to their lives. It is ignored as just some more needless information.

The person who truly believes in God will accept the Bible as God’s actual word. When he hears or reads the Bible, he will accept it as coming directly from God and will obey it immediately. It is not just some good stories to be read, but a life changing book that is alive and powerful.

As a follower of Jesus, you must be willing to read and hear God’s word to you each and every day. When you take time to read God’s word you must be willing to ask yourself how you are supposed to obey it. To obey the Bible is to obey God, it is His written word.

Do not allow yourself to ignore reading the Bible or doing what it says. Take it as the authority, that was given by God, upon how you live your life.

The more you obey God’s word, the closer to God you will come and the more like Jesus you will be.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know God’s word in your heart; that you will apply God’s word to your life; that you will not be ashamed of God’s word to you; and that you will be a witness of the power of God’s word in your life.
