Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, Romans 5:1
Peace is something that most people desire. Very few people desire to be at war with someone else. In order to have peace, however, it often will require some work on the part of the person.
Choices have to be made to prevent the other person from being angry and wanting to be a war. Most often, these choices are things that physically need to be done and usually on the part of both parties involved.
After showing that Jesus died to save people from their sins, Paul points out that people can have peace with God because of that justification. That justification is provided by faith in Christ.
People often try to seek peace with God by doing good things. They feel as if they do enough good things, then God will like them and save them. Doing these types of actions, puts the work of salvation into the hands of people and takes them out of the hands of Jesus.
As people try to save themselves, they will find that they do not have peace with God. They find they have not had their sins removed, because they could not earn their removal.
Those who let go of themselves and trust, have faith, in the work Jesus did, find that they have their sins removed. Jesus is willing to forgive and remove those sins as though they had never been committed–they are justified by faith.
As the believer has faith in Jesus, he finds he now has peace with God. God is no longer angry with him because of sin. There is no longer any attempts being made to be saved, one is saved by faith in Jesus, not his own personal, failing works.
You may be striving to find peace with God and, yet, are not able to find it. Realize that you cannot be good enough for God to forgive you. Forgiveness only comes by faith in what Jesus did.
Stop trying to be good enough and have faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus. Let your works be done only out of love for what Jesus has already done, not to earn salvation. In this way, you will know the supernatural peace with God that is yours through your faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know true peace with God; that you will have faith in what Jesus did for you; and that you will know the forgiveness Jesus provides.
