The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights. Habakkuk 3:19
There are many people who desire to be able to do adventurous things. They love the excitement of climbing high heights, being able to move quickly, to be able to play sports well or do some other difficult task.
Most people just watch as others do great or amazing things with their life. They have not developed the strength or abilities to do what is often in their heart to do. With this, most will just settle for where they are at and not try to go any further.
Habakkuk states that God is his strength. He compares himself and his abilities to that of a deer.
Deer are amazing animals to watch when they are in motion. They are very graceful in their moves and can move very quickly. Deer often appear to just sort of glide when they jump over a fence or some log in their path. They appear to be able to turn on a dime when running to avoid a predator. Their footing is very sure and solid.
Believers can have the same abilities as that of a deer. God provides the strength that is needed to move quickly and nimbly like that of a deer.
As a believer is walking in this world, he must tread carefully. The enemy is laying traps everywhere to capture him, causing him to stumble into sin. Just as a deer seems to know just where to place his feet as he is running quickly through the woods, so a believer can know just where to move going through life.
God enables the believer to tread above the enemy. He is walking on a path that is higher than the sinful path that the majority of this world is walking. It is walking on a path that has a higher standard.
As you rely up the strength of God to strengthen you, God will make you able to walk a holy life that is dedicated to Him. You will be able to dodge the attacks of the enemy and skirt around the traps that are set to cause you to fall into sin.
Allow God’s Holy Spirit to strengthen and guide your steps each day. Allow God to take you to new heights that you have never been before. Walk and run like a deer.
I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will be led by the Holy Spirit in all that you do; that God will give you the strength you need; that God will guide you in avoiding the traps of the enemy; and that you will live a holy life unto God.
I love this verse! I had foot surgery yesterday so this verse is just what I needed today! Thank you for your insight. In a few months I’ll be able to walk the heights outside, but for now I can walk them in spirit. God bless!
