Luke 8:30 What Is Your Name?

Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” “Legion,” he replied, because many demons had gone into him. Luke 8:30

The disciples and Jesus had landed at a certain place. A man came up to Jesus shouting. This man had been possessed by many demons. When Jesus asked the man his name, the man said it was Legion. This name means a large number of something.

Every person on the earth has at least one name that they go by. Most people have multiple names, more than just a first, middle and last name, although many do not think of them as other names. Some of these other names are: a nickname, son/daughter, mother/father, aunt/uncle, brother/sister, co-worker, boss, teacher, and the list goes on.

Some of the additional names that people like are: friend, spouse, faithful, loyal, and many others.

However, at the same time that there are many names people like, there are also not-so-good names that people carry. These can be liar, thief, sinner, gossip, lazy, ugly, stupid, and the list also goes on.

These types of names cut a person down. They look at the negative side of the person. In these names there does not seem to be any hope or love being shown.

When a person has chosen to give his life to Jesus, he gets a name change. He is no longer a child of the devil, but a child of the King. His name is changed to Child of God, saved, loved, forgiven, and many others.

The world will remember the person as to who he was, but God sees the person as who he is becoming and can be. As a believer, he is becoming like Jesus.

If you have given your life to Jesus, your name has been changed. You are a new person, a new creation in Christ Jesus your Lord.

There will be times that you may not do the right thing. The devil will try to accuse you and change your name back to an old name. You have to resist the devil and trust in what Jesus did for you. Stay with the name He has given you.

Each day you need to strive to live up to the name God has given you and remember that name. Do not allow this world to bring up the past, that was who you were, but are no longer.

What is your name?

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know the names God has given you; that you will not believe the lies of this world or the devil; and that you will be a witness of Jesus to this world.
