Your statutes are always righteous; give me understanding that I may live. Psalm 119:144
Each person has a different view on the best way to live life. Some believe the best way is out in the country side, deep in the woods alone with nature. Others say it is on the beach in the water. Some will say out on a large prairie with many cattle. Still others will say in the big cities at many different parties.
Outside of location, people will say living life is fishing, cooking, traveling, partying, or one of many other things to do. Doing something that they love is what many people determine as to whether they are really living a great life or not.
The problem with all of these views are they are self focused and temporary. They focus on what the individual likes and wants and does not take God’s guidance into the picture. They only last while here on this earth.
The psalmist asked God for understanding of His laws in order to really live. God’s laws teach a person how to really live a good life. It shows a person the best things to do or not do in this life.
Without understanding of the Law of God, it looks just like a bunch of harsh regulations and things not to do. However, God is looking out for your best interest. His laws protect you from harming yourself or others. It also draws you closer to Himself, by making you more like Jesus.
The world says to look out for old number one, yourself. God says to seek Him first and to serve or love others. Reading the Law helps you understand how to show that love to others and to seek Him first in your life. God’s Law will never fail you or let you down.
The things of this world will fail or come to an end. God’s law will never do either.
Seek God for understanding in His law and the way He wants you to live your life. Do not allow the laws to be just a list of things to do and not do. Allow it to change you for the better. See the value of His law in your life.
I pray today that you will know the Law of God in your heart; that God will help you understand His Word; that you will live according to God’s ways; and that you will live the full life God has for you.
