You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?’ Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know.
God had just finished showing Job how He is in absolute control of everything. Job then realized that when he was complaining about the suffering God was putting him through, he was speaking without really understanding. Job knew that he had been wrong about God in what he had said.
People often speak about things that they really do not understand or know everything about. During football season, there are many “armchair coaches” or “quarterbacks” that could do it better. They see a play and get angry because it should have been done a different way. There are also many people who are the “backseat drivers” in a vehicle. Again, they know how to best drive the vehicle in every situation.
When people make comments about things other people have done, often it is through their own experience or viewpoint. The consideration that the other person may be doing the best possible way of getting something done, does not usually enter the mind.
This type of speaking is often done with God. God allows something in a person’s life, and the person gets upset. How could God allow that? What was He thinking? God is absolutely in the wrong.
People, including believers, often question what God is doing. Or question why God will not allow something to happen. When this happens, they are basically saying that God is not really in control and does not have all knowledge.
God really does see the bigger picture. Would you have sent your son to die to forgive a person who hates and hurts you? Would you allow pain and suffering in order to draw a person closer to you?
God’s ways are higher than your ways. You cannot always understand why God does what He does, or allows what He allows. Take a look at how this world and the universe works. Can you run all of that yourself? God can.
Trust that God knows what He is doing. Job did not see the bigger picture in what God was doing in his life. He did not see the testimony that God was giving him.
You will not see everything either, but you can trust that it is all for your good. Do not speak against God.
I pray today that you will trust God’s plans for your life; that you will not fear what God has brought into your life; that you will not speak against God; and that God will use you to reach this world for Him.
